How about you..? Any particulars in this list that you've really liked?

most of the "top" movies are formulaic crap.
I don't think 'Therefore, I am.' Therefore, I am.

Hmmm, so much to say about this list but I'll condense it down to - how can I take a list like this even remotely serious when "Back to the Future" is (a) even on the list, (b) scores 100 places higher than "In the Heat of the Night"??

but thanks for posting it...if nothing else it has made me angry..lol :)

Dear mtmynd:

This list ( like all such lists) reminds me of a list that amused me a few years ago:

the 50 worst music albums of all time . . .

It turns out that 40 of the 50 were made by Jim Nabors.

Movie by movie in my opinion by a semi-cinophile,

1. The Godfather (1972) --- one of the all time greats, though I think may critics have fallen back on this as the status quo answer. It is great, belongs in my top ten, though like all in the top ten, I'm not sure where and perhaps like the world of boxing, all of the greats deserve the belt at one time or another.

2. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) -- I loved the film though I'm definitely leary of any list when it makes a top ten list of all time great movies. Perhaps top 250...but really, number 2? Well made film with great actors but really, did anyone have a tough time figuring out what would happen before it did?

3.The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) -- wtf, come'on, good film, good effects, only decent acting and based on a great series of books I started but could never finish....but really....number 3???? Maybe should be on the list, just for sheer difficulty of filming the trilogy, but hardly deserves such a high rank.

4.The Godfather: Part II (1974) -- Ehhh, good film, well directed, well acted but a far cry from the first.

5.Shichinin no samurai (1954) -- The Seven Samurai is a great film and the Japanese have a remarkable history of excellence in film making, but personally, I'd rather see many of The Blind Swordsman's make it into the top ten before The Seven Samurai....personally, though a good film, thought the story was dragged on a bit too long.

6.Schindler's List (1993) -- I saw this movie on a date....quick tip, never ever take a date to see a movie about genocide...definite mood ruiner...however, it was a remarkable film, great cinematography, directing, acting and writing, and loved the brave B&W choice....though because of Neeson's over-wrought acting at times, its debatable to be in the top ten though very deserving of praise.

7.Casablanca (1942) -- Dunno, only watched parts of it, kinda bored me to be honest....and I'm a Bogey fan...but it seems to be more of a standard choice amoung people....which doesn't say much about choices since Titanic is one of the highest grossing films of all time.

8.The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) -- Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed all three movies, they were well done and entertaining....However, I also enjoyed Fubar and Spinal Tap...speaking of which, Spinal Tap should maybe make the list just for the fact they had inspired so many other "Mockumentaries" pluse come'on, what a wicked parody.

9..The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) -- I enjoyed the second of the trilogy more than the other two, but again, fuck me with a film cannister if it deserves a top ten ranking.

10.Star Wars (1977) -- One of the most influential films of its time....set a new standard and created new technology for film....seems to be based upon the Samurai Trilogy, and Westerns based upon the same and a good modern adaptation of such. Though the acting is a bit suspect at times, I could, for its film and sound advancements alone, live with it being close to the top ten on the list....though Lucas should still be spanked publically for a couple of Star Wars stinkers.

11. Citizen Kane (1941) -- Yeah great film, great camera work, well written and acted and seems to be a thing to say when trying to sound like you know films....however it is long, very dry in parts and seems an effort to watch sometimes.

12. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) -- Great film, great director, fantastic crew and astounding acting....I can sleep easy with it being in the top twenty.

13.Pulp Fiction (1994) -- Yeah it was good, so good I saw it a few times, the second one being wigged out on mushrooms. Quirky accessible characters, plumped up with interesting dialogue by Tarintino, however, should it be so high on the list? Perhaps if we are just talking about modern American Films, then yeah, by all means put it in the top twenty.

14.Rear Window (1954) -- Great film, terrific story and suspensefully directed by the master of suspense....to be honest, don't know where it belongs on the list, though it does belong.

15. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980) -- Egads! Might as well throw Battlestar Gallactica as number 16.

16.Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) -- Great film, worth seeing for Sellers alone, but it is one of those films that has achieved a higher rating than its value in my opinion. Though the film is a wicked satire, it does drag on a bit in places.

17.Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) -- The return of the serial features...good family fun ( though six year olds shouldn't see melting faces) and grade A campiness.....but doesn't deserve a top twenty ranking.

18.The Usual Suspects (1995) -- break out film for Singer, well acted, but come on, number 18. Shit Kaiser Sosay himself wouldn't even agree.

19. Buono, il brutto, il cattivo, Il (1966) -- The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly maybe deserves credit for being the impitome and pinnicle of westerns, however, I think out of Eastwood westerns, The Unforgivable far exceeds this one because of its humanity, same with Liberty Valance.

20.Memento (2000) -- Gimme a fucking break. Good film, solid performances but really, who the fuck voted on the list?

I like "Midnight Cowboy" (1969)
It had a cool edge back then, and
although it's dated now. I remember
sitting in the second row of an L.A.
theatre with a big tub of popcorn and
a huge cola and digging it.

What's Bronenosets Potyomkin about?

what does that title mean?
Everything is surreal and i'm still not sure which decision I'll make.
