I had a short e mail exchange with Japhy a couple of years ago about watersheds... something very top of mind for me as i see ours manipulated beyond recognition...as hard as some try to allow a river to be a river ...others just won't let it be so. A sign on a bridge over a river here in T town reads..." The river I stand in is not the river I stepped into"..I may be slightly paraphrasing....I may myself be a paraphrased river locked into all those little streams in the back of my mind...

From the audience "Louder!!!"
Gary Snyder said firmly "I do not shout my poetry."

That was the end of it......

" You can't fall off a mountain...." Says Japhy

Paraphrasing from Dharma Bums.
