Alfred Kazin (1915-1998)

All:

The powerful clarity and lively imagery of Alfred Kazin (1915-1998), particularly in my favorite book of his, "New York Jew", shouldn't be missed.

I think I learned more about prose writing and narrative from him than from anyone else I perused during my days as a student.

His construction is admirable, his viewpoint is provocative-- left but not Marxist-- and always open-eyed.

His portraits of fellow writers are unexcelled.

A late interview with Kazin:

I think this is also an audio link, if your computer will receive such phenomena. Mine won't.
