review of Dodge Poetry Fest, esp. C. Vicuna and A. Shabtai

Post by e_dog » October 5th, 2004, 2:52 pm

the Dodge Poetry Fest was excellent, as usual. astill a bit to focused on establishment poets of the academic variety, but nonetheless some great eprformances. especially remarkable were two poets whose work is totally new to me though they've been at it for a while:

Cecilia Vicuna, a Chilean poetess who combines musicality, visuality and polylinguisticity into an erotic and semiotic blend;

and Israeli poet Aharon Shabtai, who in addition to being the best heterosexual expositor and celebrator of cunilingus, is also an incredibly forthright and radical humanist whose poetry (book "J'Accuse") about the Israeli military responses to the conflict with the Palistinians is quite moving and critical.
