You're certainly correct. "The Changeling" is a fine horror film, and one of my wife's favorites.
Another little-known but marvelous performance of George C. Scott ( one of my favorite movie actors) can be seen in "They Might Be Giants" (1971)

Scott plays a retired judge suffering from the delusion that he is Sherlock Holmes. Joanne Woodward marvelously portrays his "Doctor Watson", seeking his cure.
The two actors and fine writing make this a memorable film.
In addition to his peerless role in "Doctor Strangelove" as the ultimate military bureaucrat, General Buck Turgidson, I love George C. Scott in "The Hospital" (1971). Paddy Chayevsky's screenplay is biting and satirical, and I am still in love with Diana Rigg, Scott's co-star.
