not something to read if you cant handle long texts. it's sort of a thick book. so i recommend that superficial "activists" and philosophical blowhards avoid trying to get thru the thing.

mcwilliams makes a pretty clear, direct and honest case for what he refers to as "consensual crimes" - those crimes without a victim. pretty much, they are all entirely unconstitutional. every law that tries to prevent these "crimes" is unconstitutional at its most basic level.

the only part of the constitution ever to try to make a consensual crime illegal was the prohibition amendment. we all know how that worked out.

anyway, good read. strongly recommended.

long books aren't hard. or they can be but not usally. they're just a waste of time. basically, aside from the news, any time spent reading something other than say Marx or Nietzsche is a waste of the resource of time and energy.

reading anything but neitzche and marx is a waste of time. thats seriously got to be the single most stupid thing i've ever read in my entire life.

as a Groucho-Marxist i can only say that i am flattered by your attribution to me of the stupidest thing you've ever read. it takes smarts to be that stupid.

but anyway, if you read carefully, you'll notice i wrote "say" before Nietzsche and Marx, and while i didn't use proper comma punctuation, i meant, "for example." i.e. classics and including modern classics.

the point being that most of the most radical criticism applicable to our time, yet ignored by the establishment, 's already been said before and better, by our predecessors.

we live in a reactionary age. and the most telling symptom is that people cannot even conceive of a radical alternative to the corporate-constructed "consensus."

paying attention to the news is important, provided one is aware that it consists in significant degrees of propaganda and that it leaves out important stuff. granted. still, the truth leaves a residue, symptoms. critique requires material. the news is it.

obviously, blogs, documentaries, films, letters from granma, etc. etc. can be read too. but only if the party approves it. otherwise, it's all counterrevolutionary (-- i thru that in just to check on whether stilltruckin's still payin attention to this thread).
