Movement began right after this Operation ended - notices posted on all the bulletin boards of kibbutzim and our schools - donate goods, food, anything to the citizens of Gaza. Some people gave, some people criticized, but there are 10 trucks of donatons waiting in a warehouse at Nahal Oz (not my kibbutz) which is the closest one on the road into Gaza. Nahal Oz has been prime target for qassams this whole 7-8 years, but never mind, the contributions and money are being taken over and distributed to make sure the people, not the Hamas, get it.

There's a spirit alive of how to make way for later, when peace is the name of the game. People see the way clearly.

If only terrorists would be cast aside and some viable government could step up.

kathy kelly back from gaza

i met kathy kelly at the quaker friends meeting house
around the time of the first gulf war
they came in a truck camper homebuilt
the dude was a carpenter
he refused to pay federal taxes

it's almost schizoid
killing helping
but the latter part of the dichotomy
would turn into a marshall plan
with peace

do they know where the donations come from?
oz?

i knew a dude who had been a gunner on medivac
he said it was schizoid
killing and saving at the same tyme

i gotta wave hands like clouds
gon hit a tai chi class tonight

stay well

quite a journey

it takes a sturdiness
i need that too
like the bamboo
not bamboozled

just came back from t'ai chi.

there's been more killing - a mortar was planted near the fence, our soldier died, then a hamass-nik and passenger were shot down.

The people in t'ai chi don't have words. We don't know what to say.
Sword cutta, concentrating on balance and movement.
It all starts with self.

letter i wrote to The Nation on-line today in response to an article
winning and losing in Gaza
the url for the article's web letters which my letter was posted into is here

"I have been following the Israeli war into Gaza closely. I opposed the Iraq War and was an in-service war resister and active protester with Vietnam Veterans Against the War. I saw excess in the war onto Panama City, where many civilians were killed; I was aghast at the killing of the Iraqi soldiers after they were routed out of Kuwait and the bombing of Baghdad, although I did support removing Iraq from Kuwait.

I do support the anti-Taliban and anti-AlQaida War in Afghanistan, and the Israeli suppression of Hamas' Qassam rockets in Gaza.

There seems to be no middle ground between a cease fire and all out war. Hamas' vision is to create an inhuman situation so dire as to inflame the entire world against Israel. Why can not Egypt blockade the 8 mile desert border with Gaza, to prevent smuggled contraband? What other option does Israel have?

The controversial wall that Israel built stopped the suicide bombers. Now West Bank Palestinians have to consider other options, so they keep on living. The Palestinian Authority is their best hope for peace and an emergence into progress, improved living standards. If they begin making rockets inside the West Bank through a Hamas insurgency, more suffering will happen to them.

Israel is a renaissance state and the Israeli people are a spartan martial people, like the North Vietnamese. They will not be denied. I am supporting Israel as the best hope for progress and sanity in the Middle East. A dysfunctional Hamas in power in Palestine is not acceptable."

wow - great letter, jim.
one thing - when Egypt managed to keep weapons from crossing the mutual border, no problem, the weapons get smuggled in through tunnels.

What's so difficult about Egypt monitoring tunnels? Locating them, obliterating them? Well, apparently they're just not as good at is as the Israeli army - we've had more practice.

It can't be that 'all out war' is the only way to get peace. World attention would be better served in realizing that media can trick public opinion into thinking that hamass are the good guys, that terror groups are acceptable. World opinion forgets that such groups are expert at manipulation - to use whatever possible to get the ultimate goal - annihilation of the enemy - (and i guess i'm the enemy in this particular zone).

In any case, there's a good general article I found on Sderot Media that I quoted on my blog.

Well, I am stressed out and am not even there. My sense of closure with this situation has happenned sort of unexpectedly, a breakthrough from the ambivalence from before.

I don't know where this is going, but I will be watching to see if the Palestinian Authority continues to make progress in the West Bank.
I truly find the Gaza situation to be ultimately frustrating.

I am glad that I now understand your situation with some clarity, thanks for posting your blogs from Israel.

i'm impressed that my blogs lend clarity - my basic situation is i don't know what the hell's going on. When it's quiet here, it's not quiet a few kilometers away in all directions. Yesterday Sderot got 3 missiles fired at them. At this point, every minute is a guessing game.

i'm glad i'm not recipient to inside information - i wouldn't want to know what's going on behind the scenes.

Obviously one can not know everything, behind the scenes, that is happening. Having a sense of scope and focus is enough.

so there's no real change
hamass claims a victory
more smuggling of missile parts into gaza
terrible suffering and grief

israel is as stuck as is gaza
unable to lift sanctions
or block the rearming of hamass
some would urge sanctions against israel
which would supposedly open up their approach to hamass
however it would not work
because hamass will not change, evolve
but will continue to take advantage of any opportunity
to re-arm and stay in power in gaza

hamass is desperate for validation
nevermind the tragedy that befalls the people
and a weakened israeli approach will only fuel more violence and power over the people of gaza by hamass, not unlike what happenned in germany when the good german people voted in adolph h hitler and then the nazis took over
as in gaza whwen hamass won the election
they booted out everyone in thhe government who was not a ham ass
operative
and now the security apparatus is dangerous and mobile
while real security within gaza is non existent
just the ham ass patrols to control the people
i guess

one letter writer said that the IDF israeli defense force should commandeer the southern border between egypt annd gaza
which as he said would result in fewer gazan casualties
and more IDF casualties. but i agree
why not?
these horrible attacka upon the neighboors should not happen again
if possible
in lebanon the IDF should fight hezbollah directly in the south of Lebanon
not bomb the whole country
and israel needs to lockdown the flow of contraband thru egypt
as they could do a better job of it than egypt
maybe

time to visit the cyber wailing wall

holy one
we pray for a cease fire and healing in gaza
and courage and resilience in israel
it's a good thing
we give thanks for this real time window into this wondrous center of faith and inspiration
and closure with judih

I wasn´t too connected with the news during the last weeks but I couldn´t avoid to think in judih each time I heard somebody somewhere talking about it.

more light, tai chi & will to help the ones in more need sounds great. Anyway.
I´ll read with more details the thread and the links later.

in any case, the news is only what they choose to tell you, so it needs to be balanced with taking long walks and asking pointed questions.
