Today I discovered America
"How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers"
The Gymnast worsted God
"How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers"
YesIn Time’s stayless stealthy swing,
Uncompromising rude reality
We mangled the Monarch of our fashioning,
Who quavered, sank; and now has ceased to be.
- From “God’s Funeral” by Thomas Hardy, 1919
The Gymnast worsted God

No dreams about sailboats and tropical isles last night
dark mountain roads deep ravines and treacherous bridges
Obsessed with the oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico
Not even another crisis in Palestine can distract
Not even another senseless death in Afghanistan
For all our lethal power
the United States is a Chump for the Brits
I don't know if Obama has a chance in 2012
I think not if that shit keeps on spilling into the gulf for another three months.
What the hell do I know. I figured McCain was going to be our next president.
But it is turning out that Obama can kill them better.
What does it all matter to me anyway
If six was nine if Willie Nelson cut off all his hair
I got a bus to catch.

Rude Realities
The bottom line
I was thinking about Patti Smith
I was thinking about rock and roll
Smoke on the water
and crude oil
Thinking I need a night out
My night vision not what it used to be
but what the hell.
no the oceans won't die
homesick oceans

Where to, mr. telephone man?
Anywhere out of there, that's about right.
I picture you on a sailboat, too
going with the water
and she sprays sea salt,
life could be good.

You could bring an interesting article or newspaper or painting by, and we'll have coffee.
Said telephone man due to the other thread cellophane, made me think telephone, but yes.

I want to go see it on broadway, someday.
There's a new play coming out, might be a similar style to Chicago.
It'll be nice. I'm not much of a cook, just so ya know
only the basics, like throwing a burger on the grill with only pepper to season, nothing special, I don't know how.

I love talking food and what we're eating.
All my food is boring, except a couple goodies.
My son is the one who loves cooking, he puts thought into it, like it's an artform or sumpin'
His latest idea, which is tasty, is pita breads toasted in the oven with butter, then he cooks bow tie pasta, then puts the cooked pasta on the toasted pita with an organic tomato sauce, mozz cheese and things we have on hand like black olives or artichoke.
He's a vegetarian, so he started cooking things he could eat, whenever we made burgers.
I read the poem, I've been investigating it and the back story to find out what the intentions were, just read mr.'s reply and need to go respond to that, was all an interest to me, too.

I wanted to show you this on Saturday,
I'm late, but this is from
Richard Brautigan's
So the Wind Won't Blow It All Away
me, I never know what's real or not real.

............It was a color photograph of a flatbed truck with a huge catfish on it that took up the whole bed. The catfish was maybe the size of a whale. Think about Moby Dick to my twelve-year-old way of looking at things and you're very close to the truth. The postcard was some kind of trick photography, but 50% of me believed that it was real.
Once that 50% gained total control of my mind and I asked him if that was a real catfish. Maybe I had spent too much time fishing in the sun that day.
"Are you kidding?" he replied.
"I guess so," I said. "How did they do that?"
"I don't know," he said. "If I knew how they did that I wouldn't be the night watchman of a half-assed sawmill out in the middle of nowhere."
me, I never know what's real or not real.
