Earth day
2010
everything looks so bright and clean
in our air and water.
A long time ago
We loved that dirty water.
Boston in the eary seventies
Brownish looking tap water with foam on top
Greenish yellow skies over D.C.
We have come a long way
and the poisons still there
but everything looks better
And another baby is coming
My sister's son determined to do the right thing
But I can't live for him
If I can't live for myself
Not like I got a big fat insurance policy to leave him

Poets always get there first
Everybody is a poet
but me
it is magic to me
smoke and mirrors
snake oil
life giving
and the rain is falling hard now
syncopated rythm
but me
it is magic to me
smoke and mirrors
snake oil
life giving
and the rain is falling hard now
syncopated rythm

Just that quick the rain is gone
early morn silence
computer whir
keyboard shuffle

There was a man like you and me
as simple as a man could ever be
and he was happy as a king
except for one peculiar thing
He had a clock that worked all right,
It worked all right, but not exactly quite;
Instead of going "tick, tock, tick",
The crazy clock went—"tock, tick, tock".
The poor old man just raved and raved, because nobody could say
Why his silly clock behaved that hickory dickory way....

Jack, a baby on the way? My congratulations, sincerely. Are you...or are you the uncle or...A baby is a blessing, always in my way of thinking. Adults could die out all day long, but keep a baby safely kept. I know it sounds rude, I can't help it yet, some day I might have more heart than I have.
I love that quote, by the way, you are a very good poet.

`Do you know, I was so angry, Kitty,' Alice went on...`when I saw all the mischief you had been doing, I was very nearly opening the window, and putting you out into the snow! And you'd have deserved it, you

No I mean thanks
for the flowers
but no poet me
the soul of a bean counter
Brautigan had the soul of a bean counter too I think
so maybe I am in good company
I sometimes wonder if his irony is missed
"watched over by machines of loving grace"
Or is it my cynicism
and/— innocence
I found a line from a short story I like
"When intention was innocent and uncorrupted by effort"
I finally finished reading Of This Time, Or That Place by Lionel Trilling
Beautiful writing.

Money, baby coming
money
about all I can do to help
I am sure the baby will be a blessing
what other way is there to see a birth when the mother is seven months pregnant.
I keep that picture of him in the arms of the Rose of Agudas Achim front and center on my desk

I've spent a lot of time on Maple street lately, I think I flirted with a few bean counters. Had my kisses and my walking blues.
Baby is coming, no preparation, there's a blessing when I find it.
But, Jack, I think you'll make a very good male role model, you've a knack for teaching and isn't that a way to do it...have a baby who looks up wide-eyed.
I always liked my mothering abilities. I think it's one of my strongest improvements and best investments on a full heart.
Makes you think...well if there's no love in this world, there's still love.

I don't think old men matter much to babies
It is my nephew that needs to figure out the ambiguities of being a male
Watching some strange documentary about a fishing village in Kosovo with English subtitles. Old men and old women, dogs and cats and fishes. A hard life, old women are far more useful to babies than old men.
I am going on Queen For A Day next week going to ask for eight cubic yards of base so we can make a pad for the double wide we are buying together my sister's son and me.
