Reading a short story by Conrad called Youth. A sailing ship called The Judea. Trying to remember what it felt like to feel young. Remembering how I felt in 1956 driving a 1949 green Plymouth convertible with my true love beside me.
Joseph Conrad » Youth ..... The Judea, hove to, wallowed on the Atlantic like an old candlebox. It blew day after day: it blew with ...

It is a family thing for me Mark. But I don't divide the world into Jews and Gentiles anymore. Now I think about people as combat veterans or civilians.

trying to remember that also. I had a red '71 buick ragtop for a while. that was pretty good. almost felt young.

yeah. what's really bizarre in my "upbringing" continues to be the church thing. in reflection. in so many ways. it was just too complicated. paul was hailed as breaking down the jew-gentile barrier. ok great, yet his church created so many other barriers and burdens . .

When I say family I mean DNA. They say Hitler styled his eugenics laws after the State of Virginia's. So a black man was someone with a certain percentage of colored blood. One eighth I think, or maybe a 16th I will have to check. So it was true for Jewish blood in Germany.

Speaking of genocide I have been interested in the Rwanda holocaust, now that is impressive, almost a million people murdered in a matter of weeks. And it was done the old fashioned way. No need for German efficiency, just machetes, baseball bats, and other reliable methods

Yes it has been going on for two thousand years, millions of Jews murdered, you would think we would be tired of it by now.

I understand the bit about "the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom." I understand the Masada mind set of the religious zealots. Those Jews are scared shitless of God. Fuck up and He comes down on you with a blood lust. Got to cross every religious T, dot every I. Or else face divine retribution. Like Pastor Hagee said Hitler was doing God's will.

I like your scripture mark, it resonates with me. I mean that sincerely. It is more Christian than anything I hear from the preachers on God TV Inc.

Speaking of preachers I wonder how Joel is doing.

Why would anyone want to curse a fig tree?
I asked Joel about that, explained it but I forgot what he said.
I have never met a fig tree I did not like.

Pardon the long ramble
and thanks for taking the time to reply.
I always feel honored when you do.

Nietzsche resonated with me too, like an old testament prophet. Or maybe it was the acid.

One more thing
Paul the first Christian, a post by perezoso, very interesting I will search for it.
