#14: SUMMER MEDITATIONS by Vaclav Havel.
[Part of the posting series for the 100 best books on totalitarianism.]

And yet, if a handful of friends and I were able to bang our heads against the wall for years by speaking the truth about Communist totalitarianism while surrounded by an ocean of apathy, there is no reason why I shouldn't go on banging my head against the wall by speaking ad nauseum, despite the condescending smiles, about the responsibility and morality in the face of our present social marasmus. There is no reason to think this struggle is a lost cause. The only lost cause is the one we give up before we enter the struggle.

The man must have had some Mongol in his blood.
So long, Harry Truman, God-damn it's hard to find an honest man.

Bye Vaclav - at least you're head won't hurt no more, I hope.

He was a valuable man.
I admired him greatly.
