the oyster, the pearl and the shell

slumbering
great heavy snores roiling the seas
patience fat and lazy
ugly corpulence
in the day to day some fondness wakes
plays remembrance games
burrows deep
works it's way
waits and sleeps
a subtle prod, a poke
a nyah nyah nyah
how awkward
notions twist and turn
pick the tender spot to bleed
and in the need to find some peace
to ease the ache, the way within
a cushion beaded smooth
soothes the naked edge of pondering
and turns upon it's own
a lie is told, soft and beckoning
beautiful it molds itself to truth
and now unfolds in precious offering
of black and iridescent glow
of telling tales of youth
of finding smiles
and knowing winks
each vessel sinks
the wreckage bobbing on to form anew
as pretty shells still glittering
in pieces on the sandy shore
crumble into dust and nothing more
but always there's the pearl
