Life hands us an empty plate

life hands us an empty plate
we begin dropping things onto it
some choose each thing selectively
some just take and run
why I've been known to let others
glob portions of theirs on mine -
not room enough on their own, I suppose
but dutifully I hold my plate just so
careful not to spill
careful not to overflow
it sounds like an easy enough task
loading your plate as you go
I've found it's best if you take time to nibble
sampling tidbits here and there
before you reach in and
scoop up a hand full
because once it's there...well
it's there
it's not popcorn buttered just right
nor pheasant served under glass
but rather it's oodles of choices
and choosing is a pain in the ass
so I'll pass on the smorgasbord of pleasures
and I shall simply have
one bowl
one spoon
and some ice cream
some starlight
some moonbeams
and you
we begin dropping things onto it
some choose each thing selectively
some just take and run
why I've been known to let others
glob portions of theirs on mine -
