I don't really feel comfortable
outside myself
bit fidgety
though no one likely sees
sees past my rigid comportment
or my joking silly me
I'd rather stand
just a little bit away from the center
tucked in
not cornered
but close enough to be

You see it all boils down to
not being all that comfortable
in my own skin either

Is anyone?
Or is it a show of strength
strength we don't ever really feel?

And when I'm reaching out
am I really only
reaching out to me?

Self enveloping.

You forget
and I forget
that everything we do
everything ultimately that we do
is for ourselves.

Oh yes
give and help
and lend a hand
but the benefit
is in the me.

Love thy neighbour as thyself
for everyone knows how much
thyself loves thee.
