I confess.

I have too many
times said,
"Let's try this again."

One more trip
around the bend,
more or less,
one more glass
of sin, one more
do-it-again.
One more spoon-fed
memory, one more
off-key tune
in the key of D.

I confess.

I have wrestled with sensibilities
and jest. I have frequently
been enamored with continuousness
and yet, I fret when hours or weeks
or events extend too long.

I confess.

Love is often a repeated song.
But it lasts not much past the
dawn of it. It is chess.
I am the pawn of it.
I consistently lose my queen
to capture. I cannot make
the rapture of a moment stretch.

I confess.

I am aware that death
is the end. But when I die,
and I tend to die more often
when the boredom robs
my breath and pen,
I will state emphatically,
"Let's try this again."
