"time to stop"

I got twelve hours to midnight
to clean my fridge
do the kitchen floors
do laundry
pick up stuff and put it away
take out the trash
and load up another load of trash
dump that
do the dishes'
roll cigarettes
brew coffee
cook something for mz polly's dog

"don't tell me I got nothing to do"

Tea at Rachel Varnhagen's

Currant bread and current affairs
Strong Assam and rooms hazy with words
Beauty and brain not a contradiction in terms
Salons where male and female minds
Shamelessly mated on plush ottomans
Where sensuous mouths dared breathing hard truths
Where strong wills fearlessly bowed to the
Ingenious stroke of a feathery well-kept hand
