Jenni and I had a great time on a lovely evening at the June Moon Celebration in Dallas Texas. The June Moon http://www.junemoon.org/ is an Annual free-form picnic/music gathering on the western shore of White Rock Lake and was started in 1978 by our dear friends Tom Cherry, Red Dog Young and others.
June Moon happens each year on the evening of the full moon nearest the Summer Solstice when our moon appears to be bigger and brighter than usual. It was on a Saturday this year and lots of friends showed up to enjoy the cool summer night.
It had rained earlier in the day and the grass was still damp when we arrived. As the clouds began to part, hundreds of graceful Purple Martins wheeled overhead and gathered in the giant Cottonwood trees along the shore. A picture postcard sunset followed soon after.
We finally got to see the full moon when it had worked it's way above the big cloud bank on the eastern horizon. It filled the trees with shimmering light as it reflected off the calm surface of the lake.
After a day (week, month) of rain in Dallas, the evening was delightfully cool and dry. The music went on until nearly one o'clock in the morning and the crowd was slowly drifting away when a Dallas police officer drove through the parking area and politely reminded folks that the park closes at midnight.
We're looking forward to the 2008 June Moon, which according to the lunar calendar -
