Day Trip

Post by mtmynd » July 14th, 2010, 1:20 am

SooZen and I along with our 2 dogs took a day off from it all and packed a lunch, hit the road and got away for several hours. Here are some photos taken while out there east of Phar Lepht, places we hadn't been to in a long time.

Gracias, Kurt, Judih y Veronica.... glad you enjoyed.

It was a very pleasant day trip and I had a party taking pictures. SooZen was of great assist as she pointed out many for me until the eye got accustomed to seeing them. Here's a few more for your enjoyment -

... if it wasn't for this bloom the cactus would not be seen... a youngster.

... a much older specimen...

the common name for the spiny one is a 'rainbow cactus' as there are stripes all around it. This is sharing space with a 'spanish dagger' ... a stiff-leafed plant with quite a nasty tip on it.

Image

here's an unusual one - a double bloomer. I had not seen any like it (those are little insects in the bloom. we had a nice rainfall the night before which precipitated the blooming of the desert life.

an old timer with a young mammalaria in it's shadows...

blooming buddies... ;)

another old timer growing next to an arroyo -
