SARGON

WE SWEPT ACROSS THE LAND BETWEEN THE RIVERS
THE TIGRIS, SWIFT AS AN ARROW
EUPHRATES, MOTHER OF GRASS
MANY FELL BENEATH
OUR SCYTHED CHARIOT WHEELS
MOTHERS IN LAMENTATION
CROPS DESPOILED
GRAIN SCATTERED IN THE WIND
THROUGH THE GATE OF ISHTAR WE WHEELED
SHACKLED THE GODDESS
FACE PAINTED WITH OCHRE
TEARS OF LAPIS LAZULI
WE RAZED THE ZIGGURAT
AND STOLE THEIR ALPHABET
NOTHING WILL BE AS IT WAS

a far cry from today's whiz bang push button warfare of armed droans
Did you ever play the old Sargon chess game for the apple IIe.
Loved that thing
Loved your lovely poem.
You made war sound so lovely
nice work
somebody on creative called it passionate
yes.

though the babylonian whores were wrong place, wrong time
the lapis lazuli and river banks are still singing

thanks judih. there are historical inaccuracies. i don't believe sargon had chariots either. still, one can take liberties in war and poetry.

"neo assyrian"
you killing me constantine
I got to have that
In fact it is already in my personal thesaurus
what do I have to do now
when I steal from judih I usually put it in quotes like this
"the winds erase the place" without a footnote,
never mind
just a point of scholarship I suppose

when the assyrians got pissed, you were in in trouble deep. it was like getting nuked - not even a brick on a brick - like you were never even there.

"Carthago delenda est"
and the romans ploughed salt into the earth
I guess they were more cold blooded.
You can always stack them bricks up again
what is the half life of plutonium
talk about neo assyrian.

Clay was talking about his last name last week His last name is January
The Roman god Janus, two faced one for time of peace one for war.
I think that is right.
