walk like a man

This is Constantine's artlog. He posted his poems in his own artlog forum for several years. He named the forum "Constantinople" and described it as "A byzantine journey through life's labyrinth."

walk like a man

Post by constantine » July 9th, 2010, 5:28 pm

some things don't set well with me
this blurring of gender
this androgyny,
people have lost their way
and have forgotten how to act
in a biologically appropriate manner
hopefully
i can straighten out
the confusing and ambiguous nature
of our floundering species
i consider myself up to the task
and offer to you, my qualifications
first off, i'm greek and i'm tough
i've worn long pants since i was five
and refuse to go back to shorts
no matter what
sandals?
forget about it
i never ask myself
what would jesus wear?
i want socks - white socks
and shoes that encapsulate my feet
because my feet are my fucking business
and another thing, i'm a purist
if i want peanut butter
i make a peanut butter sandwich
if i want jelly,
i make a jelly sandwich (on toast)
i don't mix it up, i don't
whirl one into another
like some kind of swirling dervish
indulging, shamelessly cavorting
smearing unguents and ointments
on places that should never see daylight
it's all about self-control
desires are desires
they don't have to be fulfilled
that's what it means to be a man
be stoic, laconic even
never say that you're tired
they want you to say that you're tired
they want you to admit to the fact that you are tired
why?
because it is an admission of weakness
you have only succeeded in castrating yourself
by this confession, you have debased yourself
and have lost face - not to mention
prestige! power!! position!!!
the big stuff, the holy trinity - the trifecta
your birthright (should you choose to accept it)
only you were too busy mixing condiments
and combing your eyebrows like a geisha girl
how can i right the floundering shipwreck of your masculinity?
why would i want to anyway?
you make me sick

I don't know if I knew the definition of purist until now, mr., caught my guard and sent me into thinking about if I'm a purist by definition, and I don't know. I'm gonna look into it.
And I liked this.

I've been reading the Sunday comics.
This popped up unexpectedly,
gonna think bout it.

little mischievous darling!

he's pretty hip. i like the penguin - sparky! yeah, our daily world reminds me of one of those religious tracts or the communist party's newspaper. i think it's our daily bread - and the daily world. an unlikely combination, but who knows - perhaps there is common ground. we must keep an open mind!

mr,. what I'd wanted to say (before the comics), was that I don't see the man in me. Sometimes I don't see the woman either. I do have days when I feel womanly, or childlike or as a very old woman.

As to the comic. I bookmarked it, gonna read it soon.

I was reading the blue hat dude comics, then the Extra Ordinary one, both so well done. I liked them much and mucher.

I'll show ya links if you need.

No idea why, but I've had migraines and an inner turbulation for weeks. I just don't feel right, though I'm healthy. Three weeks now, off kilter. I keep thinking it's someone I care for who might be ill and I'm experiencing a touch of it. Experimentation. I don't know.
I could just be admitting I'm a worrying type.
I might be in the grip of Mars, which sounds more logical.
Isn't Mars supposed to be the one who is a trouble maker?

Gonna lay down my head,
but I promise to look better at it.

Nice one, 'Walk like a Man', Constantine!
Glad you're not a "laconic." It ill suits a poet to be one. While your satiric, wisdom cloaked in ironic wit, makes for a stylish fit. 'Clothes make the Man.'

I gave up comics when Gary Larsen abandoned the 'Far Side.'

I have tried to reply to this one a couple of times Dino, the problem is the possibility that my nephew might read it.

I mean I am going to try and write so if he does read it it would be useful to him.

I got mouth full of blood dino
from biting my tongue when he gets into rants with my sister about what it is to be a man.

She makes my mother seem like a saint.

Dam good piece of work Constantine
please pardon the personal ramble
He is a valuable man dino
My sister is a high maintenance mother
He has learned one valuable lesson about manhood
Or at least I hope so

home is a temporal sort of deal - it exists more in the mind. i'll be there for two weeks and will travel its streets like a ghost - an odysseus conversing with the shadows.
