laundromat

This is Constantine's artlog. He posted his poems in his own artlog forum for several years. He named the forum "Constantinople" and described it as "A byzantine journey through life's labyrinth."

laundromat

Post by constantine » September 2nd, 2011, 7:34 am

hot and getting hotter
went to the laundromat
ye olde clean and spin
it was like washing your clothes
in equador, opened a dryer
and a chicken flew out
no a/c - no fan
no nothing
what the fuck?
i staggered out with glazed eyes
some crazy black guy with orange hair
started yelling at me:
"who the fuck are you, al pacino?"
i started talking into my shirt collar
like i was wired or something
and fed into his paranoia
i know all the tricks
it was then that i saw the ice cream truck
at first, i thought it was a mirage
like an oasis on wheels
i wanted a nutty buddy
what i got was a nutty fucking ice cream guy
with headphones on, be-bopping
to some kind of funny music in his head
the kid had talent - but they all do...
so i ask him:
"got a nutty buddy?"
and he fucking winks at me!
lewd and lascivious, like
we were together in a bath house
somewhere in the levantine quarter
i mean what the fuck man!
what the flying fuck?
had to get change for the dryer
but my dollars were limp and sweaty
the machine kept growling and spitting
the bills back, like a tongue wagging
mocking me, laughing in my face
the mechanical bastard!
threw my dollar in somebody's dryer
to put some starch back in it
i heard a squawk, and the chicken
ran out the door with my bill in his beak
