happy meat

i just had fish for dinner -
faceless and nameless
i mean it was catfish,
but with no surname or anything
last night
i had a steak that in its former life
roamed freely and was organically fed
kind meat, meat with a smile
guiltless meat, murdered
but gently so, with
loving aquarian hands -
new age tenderloin
that mooed gently into the night
like jews sent to the concentration camp
in plush boxcars with free drinks and a salad bar

There was a slaughter house on Pulaski Highway backed up to the Hebrew Cemetary. The mourners could listen to the screams of the hogs being butchered.

esskays - i had friends who lived behind sherrie's sho-bar - a single block of orleans. i remember tripping one night at their place and i heard these horrible wails. it was the pigs being slaughtered. sounded very human.

Now I feel like I owe you an emoticon.
"No poetry after Auschwitz"

Fortunately for me that is not true.

My visceral reaction got the best of me
a grist mill is not a pretty metaphor either.
