Chicken Legs slid his flat Indian ass into the seat of his helicopter & strapped himself in. He hit the switches and tested the controls. Just as the big blades began their slow spin he looked through the cockpit glass. A bullet fired by one of his government's own guns in the hands of the opposition was heading toward him at several hundred feet per second. It pierced the windscreen where it went into a wobble &, in this way, penetrated the frontal lobes of his brain plowing a furrow an inch deep through his right hemisphere before exploding when it encountered the back of his skull. Chicken Legs' neck then his body were lifted & thrown back in the pilot's seat then toppled forward. His last thoughts were not of home.

Dedicated to those serving tonight in Afghanistan, for whatever reason. I hope when you come home it is in the remembrance of the whims of leaders.

Chicken Legs, I know you can hear me. I know your real name in your own language. It means, He Climbs. And you did. Again & again & again & again. Your last climb you had just begun that day.
They had to send a bullet at you to stop you from making the sky. I'm sure by now you have reached the top. For me this is goodbye for now. I'll never forget you.

Once. Twice. Tribal foxes, hunger gun coyotes. Shoot from the hip, zip. I have two sons. One of them was not made for mornings - by his own account.

Cargo is the bought & the sold. By that definition all of humanity is cargo.

Hand circles in the air when the mind gives out in the middle of a sentence or balks at a word. I've seen most everybody do it. It could be ancestral as in way back there. Back when horses were not seen as something to ride but something to eat.

With nothing missing, that's what the word integral means. This post is integral.

he climbs. again & again & again & again

that was
integral [essential / necessary for completeness]. for you. to say goodbuy
...& ephemeral [transitory / existing only briefly]
like a cloud. an integral cloud with a real name. for a while

beautiful writing...

ps. i dig the boy who knew he wasn't made for mornings. one word: coffee :P

MJ - thanx - I like your swing on integral / ephemeral there. It's taken me almost 40 years to look some of these things in the eye and then eye-to-eye say to them that it's time to lay it on the ground & walk on without turning around. It's been so long that many of these things seem like a memory of a memory. I'm sure someone somewhere has already said the dead are the lucky ones. I can say it without the stink of irony. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to be alive, no, scratch that. I'm ecstatic with it. And I still like your swing on integral / ephemeral.

mingo...i have realized this the other day. we look things in the eye (learn/grow/say goodbye/move on) at our own pace. other people may want us to do it faster. but really there is only one time frame to do it in...when we are ready. and that is okay.

re. dead or alive...the dead have no memories... i am truly sorry that you had to live through things unimaginable and horrible & that you lost people you cared for. war is a cruel business. but i am glad that you are here and that you choose to share your creativity and wisdom with us. thank you.

Kung Fu animal stuffer wanted if you can bend time or space you get a free couch what I want in graph form dear girls Please Snore ! Come & get the translation and you too can be a pet rental for a day ! Real women on lawnmowers ! Blessed they are ! who sit slowly down at table to check your wand problems & as you feel the connection between fat joggers & hot vets figuring out what's wrong with your cat that you got from the most beautiful woman in Charleston. The trombone is rusty & it's just what hubby wants as the fat chicks are so fed up. Free! From your Public Defender advice on how to get your bra back. Remember nothing vacuums in a happen or a Happy Birthday or a time machine so if someone wants you to hide Easter eggs in their house when they are not home keep in mind that you decided to be a crazy woman in a grocery store so you could walk in the door during winter and say, "Attention Landlords ! My placenta needs drying ! I'll wear the costume, let's move on." The buffalo winged bridesmaids are fishing for jerks out behind the Drunk as Balls Dojo while singing new rational primitive free life songs clear of any complications of a half charmed bus driver made adorable by his fantasies of girls in prison. Only the troubled get tattoos & then get busted taking a leak in the sink. So lets get married tomorrow & sell things on craigslist & stop walking around naked. I'll make man to you & you can make woman to me & we will be all the people who rent hotel rooms, take play to it's highest level & have a righteous understanding of the human condition.

PS - Just checked my lottery ticket - hot dogs again. To hell with it. I'm going to send the whole army in and if I get killed I'm gonna cry.

PSS - I screwed up. Now I have to take ibuprofen. If you come to a crossroads ring the bell because there is no Internet in heaven and no phones in hell.
