The Assumptions of Paul Harvey

The story that Bauckham assigns to the Assumption of Moses is represented in several patristic catenae, histories, and commentaries. According to this version of the tale, at the death of Moses the archangel Michael was sent to bury his body, but the devil laid claim to the body on the grounds that he was the lord of matter. Michael replied that it is God who is the lord of matter, citing a psalm or two to underscore the point. Michael then cried out: May the Lord rebuke you! At which time the story points out that the Lord is the Lord of spirits and of all flesh, citing the LXX version of Numbers 16.22; 27.16.

That bit in Legends of The Fall that starts at 1:26 always reminds me of Clay when I see it. A warrior's death, we all want to be a hero, death makes every thought absurd, I been wishing Clay a good death.
what ever that is.

I am also hoping for a miracle cure, that he won't die this time.

Sorry Jack - death comes even for the Texan. My uncle, attending the death of one of his lifelong friends watched that friend close his eyes for the last time. Then he bent down and kissed the forehead of his friend. When my uncle stood back up he said to no one in particular, "last one out please close the door"

these weird cyber friendships I feel like I have known him forever, but never in the flesh, never got a feel for him except for our words, and his music. He is not dead yet, I try to remember that, I started posting about him in the past tense, I did not like the sound of that.

I don't want to rush him off,
I used to have a tape made by some guys in the Roanoke chapter of some veterans organization. Good old rock and roll, had one song called Angel In Green about an army nurse and sister morphine.

I just hope, I tell myself he is in good hands among friends who can help him get what he needs to make it through the night, or as someone said to gently leave this plane.

I have read that Hemingway said he was hunting for & reaching for "one clean sentence" -
I take it he found it. After he found it he must have come to the conclusion that there was nothing else to do, no way to top that. So the he blew his head off somewhere in Montana.

Nobody knows why Brautigan blew his head off. He was never quoted as looking for "one clean sentence" -

If Hemingway had wished for a dog to let in and out during the passage of winter days instead of wishing for "one clean sentence" he might have lived a longer fuller life. A dog will keep you focused. Keep you from the sin of seriousness. A dog will lick your face.

If two people love each other there can be no happy end to it.
E. Hemingway

The drunken amulet stagnates on the stairway. The specialist in sardonic savagery keeps his snapshot revolver clean. The gleaming steamship goes down in the North Atlantic. The bottomless bookseller gets behind the eightball. Medusa has moved to the state of Georgia where she strokes her snakes and considers her case of Jupiter leprosy over a glass of iced mint tea. There are houses inside of houses whose inhabitants speculate the worth of the passing moment. When I was a boy I indulged the microscope, read National Geographic, devoured everything then known about dinosaurs which led me to the discovery of fossil eggs in the sands of the Gobi desert in Mongolia. Then I discovered the breasts growing on all the neighborhood girls. This, more than anything else, was to be paramount influence on all that was to come. From breasts I branched out to their lips and hands and necks and shoulders and legs and voice & ya know the whole package. The country of Eve.
I left the microscope, National Geographic, & dinosaurs behind me and ventured into new worlds. No king, no gueen, sponsored me. I learned to get around.
I learned to depend on myself.
I hopped the Midnight Train to Georgia.

"Hello how do you do my name is Sue"

So many long haul gypsy truckers are ex combat veterans, don't know why, I put it down to the freedom of the road. I carried that tape around for years, another song on it was about a vet trying to explain to his son about not getting a bunch of medals, lyrics went something like this "hard to explain to a kid with a Rambo knife how it was to carry 90 pound pack on your back"

Those men I trucked with over a couple of million miles, I could tell the ones who never left New Jersey, they were the ones who would tell war stories and fire air-guitar machine guns and make bang bang noises, it was a lot of fun they way they told it. *

A friend of mine from a Quacker meeting in Nashville used to have one of those floppy jungle hats with a little patch that said "Participant in the Southeast Asian War Games 1968" He was a grad student at Vanderbilt University working on a masters degree in Chem E. Somebody stole that hat from him in one of his classes... I always wondered if the guy who stole felt like a hero wearing it.
Can valor be stolen? I don't know I am just a crazy 4f hippie skid from Baltimore.

But I worked with men who were the salt of the earth and they were life takers and they accepted me and trusted me. I felt at home with them.

Hemingway said the best way to find out if you can trust someone was to trust them

I don't trust Obama any more than I did LBJ, but I voted for him both times.

I found a wonderful website, I been living there

I worry about CLay's legacy on the net, I would like to start an effort to back up his work, I went to a link of his that was 404.

*RE: "one clean sentence"
that sentence of mine is badly in need of a re-write, but is the best I can do for now.
sorry

A kiss is a complex institute. The labyrinth thereby obtained is a dominant negative, traditional in making new regions available for sex. Consequences = maintenance. A philosophical focus = technology, a new way to cut letters into the face of tombstones.
Dance results from song & song is how a baby is brought to sleep. As can be seen pregnancy is the primary site of cultural transfer. In the beginning the word was in the womb.
The new spearpoints coming out of the ice age led directly to agriculture, civilizations, skyscrapers, & space travel. Canned food. Blankets by the millions. Radio. Rock & roll & I have a dream. Shifts in circumstances are a constant - keeps man in his place as a permanent immigrant. The design is flawless.
The human spirit is a registered document to the core. An adaptation whose technical emphasis is on the moment-to-moment. A final positive is not within its power & gives rise to the schemes of belief in the face of countless unknowns. The footnotes all contain references to prayer as bread alone is not enough.
The continually needed enforcement of laws is the equivalent of truth as the thin revenues of evolution gather to be investigated as agenda only & not as self evident manifestations
of fact nor of nature.

A kiss is a complex institute. In its realm innocence knows no existence.

This is a gem steve, you ought to share it on the creative board.
