doreen - Thx doreen. I've gone back and forth on your question about the pricing for the bags. To tell you the truth I would be much more comfortable (and much happier) with something that has come from your own hands versus cold hard cash. How about a barter ? How does that sound to you ? I'll trade you a bag for one of your paintings.
One of your abstracted works. I've seen some of those you have posted here & have taken pleasure in them all. I want a new work that you would create just for this barter. In return I will design a beaded bag for you. A new work created just for this barter. No time frames on either of us for this no deadlines no schedules. No under- the-gun from demons without or within. We will not manufacture - we will be free to create as the spirit moves. We will just breathe & it will happen out as it will. What do you think, 'reen ? Deal ?

I hope you do judih. Beads teach you things in their own way. More than that they let you in on things about yourself. An example of this is you may not think you have much patience. Every single bead you take up requires patience. Demands it would not be going too far. You can end up discovering patience is not only a virtue but you also are likely to find you have a store of it what rivals old man Job himself.
Beads are old judih. I'm not taking historically either. Prehistoric with a capital P. New discoveries have pushed back their beginnings so unthinkably distant into the past that grown academics are at each others throats & reputations over what means what. Beads have begun empires & cultures to say the least. Working with beads is not for everyone but anyone can do it. If you watch children putting beads on a string you are witnessing an act that stretches back at least 35 millennia & probably (almost certainly) much more.
Beading on bone is a favorite thing of mine but your not limited,
anything that has even a half-way solid surface can be beaded the same way. Did I mention beads give you new eyes?
I never used to wear hats. That's something that began to manifest itself four or five winters ago. The one I have on in the photo is my favorite.
Harvesting your own pitch is a good idea. I buy it commercially mostly but have been out there in the woods to collect it myself right off the trees. That way you get to see the sky and scent the wind. There's much to be said for that. Your gonna want to take old gloves with you. Or surgical gloves, more than one pair of those.
Don't linger on your inspiration. You'll find out soon enough if you & the beads get along. Go-Go-Go!

Dame - Thx. I like using a camera but not likely to be in front of one. It was Wireman kinda pushed me to this from his request a while ago asking to see what everyone looked like. I thought about it because of who it was who asked but then decided to put it on the back burner. Well, today I was finally done thinking about it. Acted & got it over with. Is there such a thing as reverse vanity? If there is it's probably what I got.

Thank you mingo! For the kudos about the rock, the mosaic garden and the details of your beading technique!!!

I have done the same kind of technique on gourds and after many failures with different types of glues, found that a silicone type glue (Goop is the one I use) works the best. Not easy to spread evenly on the surface but it does hold up very well, dries clear without yellowing and clings like a tick. lol Plus, it has the benefit of not drying immediately and you can work with it for awhile. I use that stuff also to glue my bead work to barrettes, pins or other metals, wood, stone, glass or just about anything. A new tube works the best as it tend to get really goopy (hence the name?) and thick in the tube after awhile.

It is very admirable that you even tried to re-create the pine pitch/beeswax mix and actually collect your own pine pitch. I am not that brave! (You must have a warrior's heart.)

I did notice the beads on their sides and wondered if you actually did beaded strips first and then laid them on... Now I know. Very tricky.

The origin of the word bead (bede) does mean prayer. Our ancient ancestors were adorning themselves as soon as they found a rock with a hole in it and put some sturdy long grass thru it and wore it. Painting on rocks and wearing rocks were our first art forms, as you know.

Weaving was my first craft but I found myself possessed by the beads I gathered for my wall hangings. Pretty soon, I had more beads than yarn! They led me in a different direction although I still weave straps for bags and use a Japanese technique and loom for some neck pieces but beads are always involved, one way or another.

As you also probably know, the peyote or gourd stitch is the most ancient of beading techniques and so very versatile. One of the neatest things I used it on was a beautiful branch of manzanita that Cec found in the creek behind our little place in Ruidoso, NM. After sanding and oiling it, I beaded a strip and fringe around the top and it is my trusty walking stick.

I could go on and on about beads, so I will stop. If one is bitten by the bead, it is incurable. But what a way to go! It is the best form of meditation I know.

Thank you again for the inspiration and the sharing... I believe that the buffalo will gift you someday.
Freedom's just another word...

Got some parallel synchronicity going on there with the weaving sooZ.
That's how I came to the beads too. I ain't touched a bead since last winter. All this talk 'bout them had me going through my stash last night. Taking stock. Checking needles. Going, "Lets see, I could use a hank of these & 50 grams of those & ... beads on my fingers... nuthin' but trouble...glorious trouble.

I hope you're right about the bison skull.

Anais Nin meets Wiley E. Coyote! They pop out for coffee. Wiley opens the door of his ol' Chrysler for Ms. Nin. She says "Thank You" with a glance of her eyes. Coyote smiled with all of his teeth & replied; "House of Love to you too." They went to the powwow. They feasted on frybread with honey. They danced. Then Coyote said, "Are you ready to get out of here?" "No! No! Please, Mr. Coyote," she replied, "Can we dance just one more time?" Coyote smiled & answered, "For you Doll, anything."

I am so smiling over that!

She said, "Darlin', there's room for us to dance anywhere."
He'd winked at her.
Back in the 40's, Anais tipped the doorman a few dollars to dim the light switch. She tipped the bar-tender a kissed cheek, and a nudged collar to double up Coyote's shots. Then, like a classy girl, she sweet talked the saxophone cat to play a special number.

I'm the last leaf on the tree. I'd like to just drop but my stem is stubborn. I really don't want to hang around all winter and get pushed off by the growth of the new leaves in the spring. Screw that. I'd rather fall right now then be hanging around in this tree all winter being a constant reminder of myself.

Winter is coming. The mice are updating their holes.

It's a shame the heart ain't issued with storm windows. Winter or summer it's the same windows all around. The heart sits in it's room thinking, "I'm not sure I got the best deal on this place."

There is no such thing as "Nothin's happening".

Fighting with bow & arrow is a very quiet form of warfare. No explosions. No BOOM. No KAPOW. No smoke. No body parts flying. It's just as serious as the way we do it but it's much quieter.

Flux. Same word used for flowing and/or fusing. Flux. I just tried to imagine Humphrey Bogart saying this word.

Well now I can't get out on the net & there's a Clement Greenberg quote I want to be sure of. What wonderful timing. Every time I hit on a site I keep getting "redirected" to advertising sites. If somebody is at fault for this I would like to graffiti his hard drive with smoke & fire. This thing ain't so hot after all. There is a ghost in the machine or should I say in the programming or should I say in the mind or should I say the promise of glory in the new world for removing Indians from the landscape gets you dead & mutilated on a ridge in Montana under a merciless prairie sun or should I say it's in the nature of the beast?

Or all of the above?

Ya know why laws exist? Because sin does.

If you made all fire hydrants invisible dogs would still be able to find them by the smell.
Dogs "see" the world through their nose.

If we had the nose that every dog has we would be able to smell the stars.

Gonna have to go from memory on the Greenberg quote -
"Paint is paint & surface is surface & that's all they should be."

But don't quote me.

Mingo, I think they say ... opens up all five senses to extremes at one time. I don't recall smell. Isn't that strange? and strange it popped into my mind.
I'm just here imagining your picture coming alive, I think it is alive. I think it swims and blinks and ripples and waves. It reminded me of Jack's ripple rouser. Or finding nemo times eighty-eight. If I were to drown, I'd want it to be so alive as this as I'm going down. Like drown myself in an over-sized sea salt aquarium stuffed with these guys, no room to breathe and I'd happily go out like a bubble popped with such alive things in my sights.

Thx D. A few days ago I discovered another function on my paint program. It mimics a wet paint brush and pallet knife plus a smear function. I did several of these in succession with it. New discoveries.
I ain't got a handle on everything possible here yet but I'm having a great deal of fun messing around. Thx for looking here & saying.
