in the snow
morning light reveals
the criss-crossing tracks of night animals

hauntathon on monarch pass
never forget that spooky feeling
eidetic image etched in wonder

snowflakes big as hubcaps
drifting down silently
running on virgin snow

mama your boy is here
far from those terrible mountains
safe and sound in my texican home

the leaf under the snow
the gun on the table
a shotgun under my chin

william gibson the guy who wrote cyber punk fiction wrote a poem about the suicide of his father. Had a line in it about the click of the mechanism.

After Crazy Mikes death
but before JFK's
my binky was a shot gun

under my chin
I would imagine
the click of the mechanism

auditory hallucinations are spooky
I have had a few too

... came across a Google entry this morning - this - " World War One for Kids " - it stunned me -
it was an education site - just had never seen a phrase like that or had never thought about it -

World War One for Kids - ok ... why not?

a podge of hodges - I see this year is the 100th anniversary of World War One - met a Mohawk woman years ago who told me that during her college days she took some time off to go to Europe for the express purpose of seeing the battlefields of WW 1 - that stunned me too - I asked her why thinking it was in line with some course she was taking - but no - she said she just wanted to see them out of curiosity - no other reason - the juxtaposition of her & these things stopped me in my tracks -

on my as-yet-to-be-fixed 'puter I have a crap ton of stuff dealing with World War One - documents, photographs, diary entries - especially diary entries - don't know why - hell, my grandfather wasn't born until 1918 - the men who fought in that war are all dead now - no witnesses left - does that make the war dead too? - I suppose there is a truth in that - startles me to think that Vietnam is gonna go that same way - all of us who spent time there are in our 60's & 70's now & many have already passed on -

had a ladybug on the inside rim of my coffee cup this morning - this time of year they come cawling out of the woodwork (literally) where they have been hibernating since last autumn -
saw her crawling around in there at the last possible moment - she wasn't too shiny to begin with and even less so after I had "rescued" her - but she lives (I think) ...

thought I had settled on a bike of my choice but bopping around to different bike sites yesterday I came across another one - this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBlBZSjHXg0

lookin at it made me realize I have come to the age where comfort is more to be desired than speed - and it comes with fenders (no extra charge) AND a kickstand! (My Good God what a thought!) big cushy seat - big cushy tires - bet you could ride across Texas on this machine and live to tell about it too - I did some research on it - every time I saw a different pic of it I ended up smilin' bout it - looked up some pin-up art decals & stickers that I know would fit on those big fenders - hell yeah Mongolia -

I'd grow up but I'm having too much fun

My fathers war
that's how he got his citizenship

it was a bully bad war
just a slight miscalculation among honorable men
ag me with a spoon every time I hear a president praised for his "Wilsonian" diplomacy

my favorite quote from the war was about Ypres
"sacrifice 500,000 men on the off chance of success"

You know it sounds crazy but I think the wrong side won that war. Poor little Belgium my ass, them motherfuckers had it coming. If I was a German soldier invading Belgium in 1914, I would have been yelling "Remember the Congo"

sorry amigo I get wound up on the subject of war I can't stop myself.
I think selective service made the right decision when they classified me 4F unfit for military service in 1962 after crazy mike's death just because I walked around with a shotgun under my chin. I was none that any soldier would want to share a foxhole with.

Felt so fucking guilty after the Gulf of Tonkin
I remember the day LBJ made his speech, it was like George W.Bush standing on the rubble with a microphone. God dam I wanted to enlist and do my patriotic chores

World War vets are gone, who is left to tell the truth, maybe just the children of the men who fought it.

Take care of yourself mi amigo and teach your children

yeah I do too Jack - or try to anyways - keeps coming 'round even against my best efforts - don't think I have to bother myself overly much bout it though - these days the feeling that the life I have lived seems to have happened to some one else is growing - I know that's not true but something is goin on - maybe a shedding of things is closer to the mark - whatever it is I'm pre-disposed to like it I think -

I see my life as a tapestry these days
people and events warp and woof

a death in Washington
an assassination if Dallas
matricide in Baltimore
a woman in a bed in Pittsburgh
