damn, winter's come early this year - it ain't the snow, or even the cold - it's the ice
can't walk on the ice
not without cleats
but you can't wear cleats on bare dirt
not unless you want to ruin 'em
(and why would you want to do that?)
so I leave 'em home
and hope for the best until I get to the bare road
gotta keep dog leashed
can't walk the rail-trail
'cause I can't get the car off the road
windrows are frozen solid
like water turned to stone
damn winter came early...
she'd better not stay late....

sit too much on beautiflul december 75 deree day me insiode and typing this

I wish I was an Episcopalian or even a Presbyterian or Lutheran
anything but a Quaker-Jew.

can religions be hyphenated?
how about a Zen-judist.

beats me I been watching the same funeral for three days and it warping my perception of death.
I don't have a perception of death, but if I did it would be warped.

flag-draped coffin
can anybody be buried with a flag-draped coffin
or do you got to be a veteran
if I get to have any say in that finally ritual which is my destiny to participate in as a human being.
what flag would I choose?
Or do I want to be buried, why do I even think of such things?
The will to power?
I think so, leggo my ego

Found a mouse in my boot this morning. Fished him out by his tail and threw him out the door. Kind of hard. It bounced off the garage plopped down on the woodpile then slid off to the ground
where it shook, quivered, spasmed with shock. The cats saw this and ran for the mouse. They began by batting it around. One of them bit through the mouse's spinal cord ending the party. The cats wandered off for new interests. The mouse was no longer moving. The mouse was no longer breathing.
The largest rodent in the world lives in the Amazon. Big as pigs.
The anaconda also lives in the Amazon. Bigger than the largest rodent in the world and hungry.

I wouldn't be a rodent. I certainly wouldn't be a rodent caught in the open.

Being a rodent would be hell.

I woke up this morning and found an elephant in my boot, I grabbed her by her trunk and threw her on my bed and had my way with her.

I never knew big rodents were good to eat. I wonder if they are kosher?
I saw this bit about nutrias, a big South American rodent that has invaded Texas.
Texas’s Five Most Delicious Invasive Species
Could eating invasive species be the best way to get rid of them?

For me being a woman would be hell.
They make me nervous as hell.
Makes me feel grateful to have been born as a man.

The elephant image was too too much - Cracked me up

Whew !

Like I told Cecil a few minutes ago the wind woke me up and I got to get a fire going - my feeling is what with you and elephants and Texas roaming around in my skull I'm going to be laughing with every swing of the axe out there in the dark - 8)

One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got in my pajamas, I'll never know.... Capt. Spaulding (Groucho Marx), in "Animal Crackes", 1930

last week it was spring, 70 degree days and sunshine, this week it's pneumonia weather again, cold rain, but not freezing thank god. and Zuihitsu too 8)
dang me, how many commas do I have in that line

Watching the weather, I can hardly bear to the see it even for a few seconds. Hard winters, give me the PTSD's when I see those images of the kind of weather you all got. Flash back

Yes, my TV tells me this is the happiest time of the year. I suppose we can't survive the season without dread and wonder.
stay warm, I can relate, painful memories of winter. Laying in the slush and snow while hanging chains on the tandems.

Don't sound a bit like fun to me - I don't even go near a car when it is snowing - last place I want to be when it is snowing - every collision I've ever been in has been in the winter except for one, and they were all due to other drivers losing control of their vehicles in ice & snow -

Time to go to sleep or time to wake up - down in the village the water is going over the old dam and the sound of it can't be named and nobody knows who the water is talking to - not even the dead can understand it -

Cathy M has been on my mind of late - even had a dream about her last night. No doubt it's because I associate the prog rock album "Focus III" with a day we spent together, and that's come up on my car's playlist. "Questions - Answers! Answer's - Questions" especially seems to evoke the ultimately unfounded giddy optimism of that time - was it really 10 years ago?

Funny how I associate each woman I've danced with in life to a particular song - the Lettermen's cover of "Goin' Out of My Head/Can't Take My Eyes Off You"... Bread's "If"... B-52's "Love Shack"... Larry Coryell's "Wolfbane"... Bob Seeger's "Turn the Page"... Joe Beck's "Friends"... and his "Stand Up & Be Somebody"... these songs never fail to arouse a little nostalgic twinge, a touch of melancholy as that sense of What Was reminds me of What Wasn't...

Associative memory, I think it's called, as opposed to episodic memory - recollection triggered by stimulus. My dog can't say to me, "Hey, I feel like playing with my Kong toy - have you seen it?" But he sure as hell knows that I run water in the bathroom twice when I brush my teeth, and the 2nd time means I'm rinsing which means the next thing to happen will be the leash and a walk, and at the sound of that rinse he's there at the bathroom door waiting for me. These tunes trigger associations with these women. But then the episodic memories follow, memories of love hoped, love felt, and love lost... and I wonder, Did I matter? Did I make a difference? Did I alter any of their trajectories the way so many of them altered mine?

Fuck it. Come on, Kane. Let's go for a walk.

my dog is on the watch at the door barking away - the neighbor's dogs must be out and about - snowing good, finally got a winter storm - may even have to get the snowblower out, lots of drifts -

calvin and hobbes raw gray winter days.JPG
Raw gray day, and I was fucking grateful to be alive, to ride one more ride,
And just for a minute or two, the sun broke through and it was a warm sunshiny day.

just a four f hippy conscientious objector, but I could tell the combat veterans from the guys who never left Fort Dix.
Amazing how many long haul truckers are veterans, the best of them all was the few I had the honor to run sleeper team with. Trucking like fishing or flying, when it is good it is good when it is bad it is good too. The little chicken shit civilian things that go wrong from day to day, the flat tires, the breakdowns, the hardcore vets used to actually become more cheerful, while the guys from fort Dix would ge hysterical about them.

Stay warm, I could not deal with another hard yankee winter. I can barely make it in these kind texas winter days 8)
