Thinking about thinking about The Great Gatsby.

love that book, never really appreciated till I read from Sylvia Somebody's annotated copy of it.

I think I read Zelda but can't remember a thing about it.

Ennui, she wrote in the margin.

Fucking ennui.

I been thinking about buying an e-reader while I still got a few dollars in the bank, before I give it all away.

Thanks for being a cyber sister
little sister.
First read it in 1960, first year college english I think or maybe it was high school. Blew my mind to hear that The Bell Jar was taught in high school back in the seventies.
You talk about books that come into your life at the right time, not like the Bible, that thing is always there.

Actually I never bought a Bible till I became a lead driver back in 1992. I got a NIV I think, kind of like a dumb ed down ed KJV I think. The Only Large Print edition I could find in the store.

I been thinking about Job now and then, and lightningRod too.
and women's bodies as sides of beef.

I learned a lot about my ambiguous sexuality from trading text boxes with you dame, thank you for being such a wonderful teacher.

"the trip was tedious and the girl was ugly" Giacomo Casanova

Thinking about the college girl that smiled at me back in 1962. I bet she is beautiful now. But at the time I never gave her a second look cause she was not pretty. How kind she was to me, cheered me up at a time when I was sleeping with a shotgun under my chin, or so I had dreams of.

I wonder what those dreams meant. I decided to see a shrink, if I only I had smiled back at Sarah that day. Amori fati, the mad man sang.

We should have a discussion about the notes in our margins, in the margins in our used books. In my edition of the Great Gatsby, there's a couple notes in the margins. As soon as I read yours and remembered the photo you have of it, I collected my used copy to see if I'd had notes left for me to view from some unknown else.

I found they underlined
"She was extended full length....chin raised a little....out of the corner of her eyes she gave no hint of it...
..........that the surname of the balancing girl was Baker."
....Her face was sad and lovely with bright things in it, bright eyes and a bright passionate mouth--
The Great Gatsby pg 13
Then the notes in the margin are 'languid, rose in air', 'Daisy her chin for balancing'.

And then on pg 17 they wrote 'pokes fun at him.'
"Tom's getting very profound," said Daisy with an expression of unthoughtful sadness. "He reads deep books with long words in them. What was that word we---"
Oh!? What Zelda, the game?
I do likes my kindle a lot, prolly you'd really like one, too.
I still like to buy used books, but it's nice to do both. Ya know, to do both means I can read books and a kindle. It's just like the difference between reading forums and reading google. Yes? :P

I likes you, too, and your teaching.
Remember when I didn't read books? ha ha and I misspelled everything, I added a bazillion exclamation points and I didn't distinguish between paragraphs. I'd put up a whole wall of text one time. It was amazing, it was really ugly looking. ppp

I want/need to spend every single day with us.

And you had me surrounded in women who I had to fight off.
I was in constant jelly. :P I never said I wasn't plain.
But, I am not ugly and I'll never believe you mean it.

Not so much about you dame. I am sure you pretty It was about Sarah Tanenbaum, she was not ugly either. She had a strong kind face, I bet she had a long and distinguished career as a physician. I hope she is still kicking.

Zelda Fitzgerald. I am going to have to think about seeing the movie dame. I got so much invested in the novel. I think I will wait and see what you have to say about it before I watch. Maybe I am just not into a movie right now. I been listening to wireman jam and i am finding it difficult to spend anymore time sitting here.

No, don't watch it actually. It'll ruin the imagining after reading.
But, do watch just at 5.30, skip until 5.30 on this clip and only watch just that line before stopping it. You'll like that part as I do.

too late I already watched most of it, well up until tom got the phone call and daisy turned to nick. So far I am most happy with Sam Waterson as Nick, I like what I saw but you know how crazy I am about boats, glad I saw the begining. Mia must be a good actress, but I don't think I am going to give up my deal old rimaginary doll Daisy to her Physiognomy. Mia just did not convince me she was Daisy, not the way I imagined her at all.

I will try and watch the rest of it, al least to see what Robert Redford did with his part and I was curious to Karen Black as Myrtle. I listened to the audio book a few times last year.

I just got my own novelization running in my head. I was a real Tolkien freak, I mean read those books so many times, now it is all mixed up with the movies. Hollywood stole my face, sort of. Oh well I still got New Zealand. I wish I could go there. Even thinking about it makes me feel lonely.

Well, since you're already involved :P
When you get to 6/14 think I'm saying what Daisy's saying at 5.29.
ppp

Also later on, "Do you remember when an hour alone with you was impossible..." All those women throwing themselves into your shoes. :P

what are you saying

not sure I know what I am saying
what am I saying
maybe you hear me better than I hear myself

thinking about all these got dam words, sometimes I have to drive eighty miles an hour just to drive through this fog of words that shroud the planet these days.

these waves of words, cell phones, computers, radios, televisions, satellites
it is not the co2 changing the climate it is all that hot air.

I was just saying I'd want to get one of those pink clouds to put you in and push you, too. Then I was saying I like to watch movies with you and that I'm glad all those dumb girls are gone.

I was just saying those kind of things.

I will look into Zelda Fitzgerald tomorrow.
I'm admitting I'm a sleepyhead. I got very irritated with Mia as Daisy, too, but eventually I forgot my irritation. She's not at all like she materializes in vision in the book, but she worked for the movie by act 3ish or 4.

Thank you for not forgetting about me and keeping this friendship.
I'm hopeful it'll last the years, it is what I imagine and would like. :P
Sleep well, u.

Thank you, I don't how I imagined Daisy, she probably knows her better than I do.

Just saying I am that I made her up inside my head,
Ennui, still trying to get my head around that, so much ennui in marriages it seems.

But I don't know what love is, except I loved my dog.

I just bought a watch for a thousand dollars. Her watch

because I did not want it to get away, diamonds and rust.

If people looked in at us, like people look in at Daisy and Gatsby or Henry and Anais, I wonder that they'd wonder why we're doing as we're doing.

What I'd tell them is that I'm happiest spending time with you the way that we found/find to spend time, rather than to be in anything else, normal or not that I'd not be happy in.

ppp is me sticking my tongue out at you.

sorry I missed so much of what you said above I was so busy pontificating.

I never knew there was a movie based on the novel. My favorite character from the novel was Nick. From what I saw I think I liked what Sam Waterson did with it.

How would people see us? As two friends in conversation. Like two frogs sitting on a saw horse, a little statuette my mother gave me.

Hope you have a good day dame, going to be in the seventies here, I am showered and dressed going to spend the day out doors. Been working hard, got thousand dollars in the bank, so much money for me. My nephew still recovering from the motorcycle wreck, needs thousands of dollars of dentistry to repair the damage. My sister trying to raise the money wants to sell Eva's gold watch and chain. I would like to keep in the family for Isabella Rose.

When I am not stoned work is easier, but when I smoke all I want to do is sit and write with my pals on studio eight.
