I'm trying to expand my bookmark section, trying to clutter up my audio category more. I'm specifically looking for very specific tools and resources that are interesting, please post any old link you got.
Here's some I'm pretty fond of:
http://sverigesradio.se/p1/src/sing/ is a database of sung lyrics, in audio format. What makes this site unique is that you can enter your own text into their Flash pop-up (you may have to actually click the words "Let them sing it for you" to get it to pop-up, or fool around with your browser pop-up settings if you know how). The site will take a few moments to cross-reference your text with its lyric database, and then, theoretically, is supposed to spit out a unique song for you, with various singers (most mainstream singers from popular songs from many genres) singing your lyrics in a jigsaw fashion. When I tried my text of "What fire is this burning?", I was greeted by Joe Crocker, Jim Morrison, and others. Interesting to play with, can be good for a laugh. They seem to still be building the database, so some text can have this weird result of an occasional beep indicating the syllable can't be matched as typed. A way to get around this is to try different ways of spelling your text.
http://www.p22.com/musicfont/ is a very simple MIDI program that will generate sheet music and a MIDI file based on text you enter. It is a very simple algorithm (think in terms of "this keyboard character equals this note, etc"), but can be customized to a mild degree. You can choose the instrument and tempo. In its simplicity, it really isn't a whole lot different than a program that turns your typing keyboard into a musical keyboard, except with this method, you can find unique "tunes" associated with language. The program doesn't know a whole lot of special characters, so be easy with the tilde marks. Any character it doesn't recognize in the algorithm it will simply ignore.
http://www.audionerdz.com/ "Delay Lama is the first VST-instrument to offer both vocal synthesis and a real-time animated 3D interface. Its advanced monophonic vocal synthesis engine enables your computer to sound just like an Eastern monk, with real-time, high resolution control over the vowel sound. What's more, the plug-in window displays a 3D animation of a singing monk, that reacts directly to your input!" This is a VST plug-in, if you know how to use them, now available on Mac. Here's one of their samples of what it can sound like: http://www.audionerdz.nl/mp3/Monk_eteram.mp3
(iTunes store only) http://www.generativemusic.com/index.html "Developed by ambient pioneer Brian Eno and musician / software designer Peter Chilvers, Bloom explores uncharted territory in the realm of applications for the iPhone and iPod touch.
Part instrument, part composition and part artwork, Bloom’s innovative controls allow anyone to create elaborate patterns and unique melodies by simply tapping the screen. A generative music player takes over when Bloom is left idle, creating an infinite selection of compositions and their accompanying visualisations."
http://uisoftware.com/MetaSynth/FLASH20 ... ollage.php Just watch the Flash video. Mind-blowing Mac app. "MetaSynth is an electronic music studio for Mac OS X where you create, compose, design and transform music and sound in a unique environment that invites exploration. Our users include Academy award-nominated sound designers and composers, popular electronica artists, avant-garde explorers, successful record producers, academics, students and amateurs all of whom share a desire to explore new sonic realms. Whether you want to create slamming grooves, haunting ambiences, or aural sculpture, MetaSynth has something to offer."
http://www.zanorg.com/machines.php some very simple flash loop machines. Nothing custom, including settings, but some of them are pretty fun to play around with.
http://www.musigenesis.com/ a neat program that tries to fuse versatility with usability. No musical or programming experience required on this one, check out their gallery page to hear some samples.
http://www.synthzone.com/compgen.htm some nerdy links for computer-synth music and programs
Please post with any strange, interesting, fun resources you have, I'm collecting em
I'm trying to find good quality sound morphing software in particular, something will let me customize shifting one audio clip into another audio clip, but I'll take anything you got
