Fringe (pronounced fer-IN-gay) Music

Post by Lightning Rod » September 8th, 2005, 8:17 pm

This is one of the favorite pieces of music that I have ever recorded. It is a dance piece from my rock musical A Fool's Ballet. The inspiration for this piece was the 1812 Overture.

It was recorded years ago on a four track analog machine. It was done in two passes. I sat in the booth on the first pass and played the bass while the drummers and the piano player wore headphones with my voice going into their ears. I described the scene (a battle) to them as we played. I had written themes but most of it was improvised. Then I went back and played the flute part while my partner worked the effects on the flute (octave diviider, wah-wah and echo-plex.)

It is called On the Precipice

If you have a fast connection, give it a listen.
