edgar allan poe & music in my livingroom

Post by mindbum » May 30th, 2007, 4:00 pm

hey,

my friends and i have been doing some recording in ye olde livingroom... you can hear the running fishtank water during the quiet bits.

these are all poe words set to whichever musics we come up with. the words are mostly faithfully correct. with the exception of honest mistakes.

http://www.myspace.com/oilcannoise

i hope you all enjoy these noises.

also check out http://www.myspace.com/oilcanparade for the second half.

love it aaron
your incidental percussion is great
I love the jew's harp in the background? (I know there's a more delicate name for the instrument, but I forget what it is.)

didn't hear the fish tank
but I know what you mean
half of my recordings are accompanied by dishwasher and air-conditioner

lr-

thankee sire.

i call it the jew's harp. some folk call it 'jaw harp'.

only instrument i've ever been even mildly decent at.

mouth harp is a harmonicky. which i am less adept at. less than decent.

i'm glad ye enjoyed. it's been fun and more tracks are underway.

ah the excitement. always fun to make things.

thanks for lissnen.

in this case i'm mostly the ramrod. the producer. gathering. back-patting. grumbling etc.

the real talents in this stuff so far are alex & andy.

and good ole doktor poe.

most o the time when you get classic poetry put to music it's a bore. which is part of the point of doing this. thankfully poe is so great. and so musically inclined. rhythm and rhyme.

not to mention it's rare you get to hear a guy sing 'didst thou not throw diana from her car?' ... not to mention hamadryad.

thanks for lissnen doreen.

I like your songs.
the music reminds me of sepia scratched photogrpahs and the smells of old tobacco.

here's the lou reed recording of the raven

aye scratching our sepia eyes and breathing deeply to the sounds of fishtanks.

thanks for lissnen bennie.

i'm up in the air about this whole lou reed thing.

i tried to watch this yastiddy but ws experiencing slowness.

i see it's footage fr. 'the cabinet of dr. caligari' which is one o me fave movies and all.

but, it seems cheap to use some old movie. or i feel indignant b.c it's such a special film.

and lou reed... i just can't decide how i feel about him.

i mean, i love the velvets. and lou's got some good records. but somehow he rubs me the wrong way...

ok, i'll try watching this again.
