cool effects. & this came out in 1944
gene kelly never met his dancing equal...
i recommend 'cover girl' if you ever come across it.
fred astaire kinda creeps me out.
i also prefer danny kaye:
this film also has glynis johns etc...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Court_Jester
but trulye, the best musical is 'an american in paris'.
with a probable second place for 'mary poppins' which just keeps delivering numbah ahftah numbah.

ooohhhh.. i love danny kaye!
Fred Astaire is ballet. Gene Kelly is jazz. I love them both but they have totally styles, of course. I don't know why Astaire creeps you out. Hmmm... Seriously, ballet dancers study Fred Astaire. I had a ballet teacher show Astaire videos in class. Surprised me but she told us he is often used as an example of perfect form and fluidity.
Thanks for enjoying this dance thread with me, mindbum!
Going to add more and I hope you do too!
For musicals, I'm a big "West Side Story" fan ... I also love "Cabaret!" and "Guys and Dolls." (but hey, I love a LOT more of them too.. lol
)... oh and "All that Jazz"... what a great musical

i guess i dont dig ballet like i digs jazz. cab calloway included.
but i already knew that.
west side story struck me when i saw it years ago. havent really seen it since. though i read the MAD magazine sendup about nikita kruschev & the UN once.
cabaret i have missed entirely. as well as chicago. and hedwig.
definitely into the older things m'self.
busby berkeley. 'waterfall' from the 1933 film 'footlight parade'

this one isnt really much of a dance number. but it's from a simply great film. that happens to be in french.
'donkey skin' or 'peau d'ane'. starring catherine deneuve. 1970
