Oh no! I didn't even know this had happened. I'm so sorry to hear she passed. I loved her! She was WAY underrated. Thanks for this post ST.

yeah, I saw this post late last night and was so surprized I couldn't respond..no words. She was a National Treasure...I looked on youtube for my very favorite song that she does, A nightingale sang in Barkely Square, lots of other renditions but not the one by her. If you ever get a chance it's the most beautiful song...off her Tweedledee and Tweedledum album.....
Yeah, I loved her....love her, such an incredibly unique wonderful voice.

Blossom Dearie on Piano Jazz

I never heard of her before she died. What attracted to me was the song, they played it on NPR

All Things Considered, February 9, 2009 - With her wispy, delicate voice, Blossom Dearie was a darling of the jazz world for decades. The cabaret singer and pianist died Saturday of natural causes in her home in New York City. She was 82.

She was a small woman with a small voice, but blogger Marc Myers says it was a distinctive style that made you want to listen.

"Blossom's voice always had this pixie-like sense of wonderment," Myers says. "Her voice was sort of helium high."

Your welcome izzy,
I am still thinking about the performance piece by you and Quinn, not trying to say I know you, but I think that bit "But I AM NOT YOUR STEREOTYPE" was yours.

Happy you enjoyed it Doreen.
I am listening to her now on Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz Show.

I like the version on the radio show, it is the last song she is singing Hey John with Marian on piano

Here it is from youtube with a band backing her up

But I still like the sound of just the piano.

About John Lennon digging her
and her digging his smile

Hey John

oh... my seattle percussionist-cousin-uncle-something-like-that must have been kind of sad...! I knew she was ill since some years ago... and I guess she was the only person that made him recorded something! she must have been an interesting person!! :) I have two cds by her, she´s not my favourite singer but I like her somehow ethereal, rhytmic, precise, pristine voice and her piano. Gracias for the links s-t, I´ll watch and listen to them!. I´ll also re-listen the cds I have and post my favourite songs!

I found out that I had 3 cds instead of 2!!!!!!! The last one (I guess) "Blossom´s planet" : third and fourth ones my favourites! (Lies of hand-some men and The ladies who lunch). My favourite-favourite cd: The Verve jazz masters 51, favourite-favourite songs "Little jazz bird" and "The surrey with the fringe on top" and a Jazz in Paris collection with Blossom Dearie and Les Blues Stars. (I specially like her voice when she sang with an invisible wink!). First time I saw her playing today, here´s an old video with her singing "Surrey...". Enjoy!!!!!!!!! :)
