Young Ones

Post by Michael » March 19th, 2013, 5:37 pm

I don’t post at Studio 8 because I think it’s unfair for anyone to post anything anywhere, expecting comments, while not commenting on the writing of others. It would be just plain discourteous, if not arrogant, to do so.

However, as a broken hearted grandfather, I beg your indulgence for my posting this song.

I have six grandkids and love each and every one of them. However, I’ve never met two of them, Ryan, 6, and Lucy, 3. My daughter has kept them from me for reasons I believe would be inappropriate to go into here.

However I will say this. If the punishment is keeping grandchildren from their grandfather, then the punishment in no way, shape or form fits the crime. The more interesting part of this saga is that I know that there was never any crime committed, let alone one that requires any kind of punishment.

The following song is called “Young Ones”. It’s sung to Ryan and Lucy, although I’m quite sure they haven’t yet heard it.

Enough whining, I guess.

Young ones, this time belongs to you.
I know that there are things you have to do.
Now is the time when smiles come easy
and when your clouds are cleared completely.

Young ones you know that you are cared for.
Yes, surely, that’s what they’re there for.
Each day they hold you with affection
and shelter you with their protection.

I know for me it will get better.
They won’t keep you from me forever.
I know someday we’ll be together.
Young ones nobody knows;
someday this space will close;
the only question is, “Whenever?”

Young ones you know that you are treasured
in ways that just cannot be measured,
just as I treasured mine before you.
Though one’s forgotten what I went through.

I know for me it will get better.
They won’t keep you from me forever.
I know someday we’ll be together.
Young ones nobody knows;
young ones this space will close;
the only question is, “Whenever?”

Young ones I know each day you’re growing.
and it’s been painful never knowing,
but there will come a place and time
for you to make up your own minds

and, then, for us it will be better
than not knowing each other ever
and we’ll spend precious time together.
Young ones we’ll lose the past;
but we will meet at last;
and we won’t have to ask, “Whenever?”
