check out Fiona Apple's tunes from the album that Sony has been sitting on for two years.

doreen doesn't like Fiona Apple because she knows I have a hopeless crush on her.

I don't care one iota if you have a hopeles crush on her.

I don't like her because she sounds like a flat cat in heat on a good day ..... her voice is monotone and can be extremely shrill and painful to my ears.....and it's particularly annoying to wake up with a hangover and have to listen to her wail.

Ugh.

when I saw doreen making that post, the first thing that went through my mind was:

did it make mr. willie wake up, as the thought did in me?

I don't get it.

I can't have a negative opinion about a so-called artist's voice without it being considered a cat fight? Wow!

Men are odd creatures.

Hey, what if the vocalist in question was Tiny Tim? His voice was similar to Fiona Apple's.

Or Sammy Davis, Jr.? A non-talent vocalist.

What if the post was about Tony Orlando!? Gag!

Hey, the only female vocalist who I think was just as bad as Fiona Apple was Minnie Ripperton. Remember her? Geesh. Another cat in heat who can't hit the notes. No, wait. There's another one who sounds like Minnie Ripperton. Can't remember her name, thank God. If I do, I'll come back to this thread and post it.

But my point is, why in the heck can't I have a negative opinion about a female vocalist without these kind of cat-fight comments?

Men are strange. Really.

If I posted my opinion about how lousy the male vocalists are in this post, how would you guys reply? It wouldn't be a cat fight then, would it?

What the hell's the difference?

I really don't get it.

A lousy so-called artist is a lousy so-called artist, male or female. Makes no difference to me. I either like it, or I don't. And I like LOTS of female vocalists. Apple just ain't one of 'em. Why? Because she's talentless. And her voice hurts my ears.

do

surely you are aware some men like to dream about these things...catfights and all...plus, sometimes men like to make jokes

OK.

I guess I just didn't get the funny part.

Maybe men or some men have a different sense of humor than I do.

Cat fights are funny? Or just fun?

Laugh, enjoy, all you want.

That's a good thing.

I just didn't get it.

Don't worry, though. I'm not worried. I don't get a lot of things. Happens all the time.

You know what gets me, though? Is when people don't get when I'm joking. Especially when I'm punning and people don't get the puns. I mean how can anybody not get a pun? LOL!!!

I had this thread called "Fictitious Books" which was a list of ... guess what.... fictitious books! Not real books. Books you'll never see on the shelf. Made up titles. Made up authors. All puns.

And 2 people on another forum answered the thread listing their favorite REAL books! hahahahahaha..... too funny.

I guess we all have different types of senses of humor.

Fiona Apple probably wouldn't have got it, either, if she read this thread. But that doesn't mean I like her singing any more than I did before.

heh

;)

by the way... if she heard me sing, she'd probably say the same thing about me.

But I'm going to sing anyway.

Wish they'd pay me as much as they pay her.

They should.

I'm just as bad.

LOL! :P

nothing is bad...i am forever indebted to tom waits, bob dylan, and neil young for showing me that, although jessica simpson has a nice voice, she can't sing worth a damn

if that makes any sense

I like Fiona Apple. I don't think there's anything wrong with her voice at all. It's distinctive. I'm sick of nice voices anyway.

Except for that group Eisley, those two girls have nice voices and know what to do with them.
Actually, doreen, (and, not to hijack L~Rod's thread) I bet you'd get a kick out of Eisley. Clay, you might too. They're a wonderful band, very beautiful, bittersweet songs. Two singers, one's a golden feather on the wind and the other's a brook in the shadow of a forest.

mars, knip, doreen

I think Fiona Apple has a perfectly enchanting voice. It's as good as Billie Holiday. Her smoky understatement is a refreshing change from all the Celiine Dions and the Mariah Careys and the other divas that do that endless soul yodeling and money notes that will crack a champaigne glass or your eardrums.

And doreen, don't dis my man Sammy Davis Jr.

I think he was a great singer. How you can describe him as 'no-talent' is beyond me.

I've been hearing his voice all morning singing:

"Keep your eye on the sparrow"

Because Robert Blake was acquitted

"Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. (don't do it)"

mars, if it took a perfect voice to make a song work, you and I would have been out of business long ago, as well as Jimmy Durante and Spike Jones and Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. Just pretty voices are a bore. That's why god created back-up singers.

I'm not too crazy for FA I think she's too much into herself.

I don't think it's possible for an artist to be too much into themselves

The very nature of artistic ambition requires ego

Honestly, I don't think most people have enough of it. Or, they have plenty of it, but instead of pouring it into confidence and aplomb, they pour it into self-reflection and self-pity

I have an enormous ego. If it were legal, I'd marry myself.
