Check this out!

"Millennium Folk –American Folk Music since the Sixties" by Dr. Tom Gruning

Dr. Tom Gruning performed in our Cabaradio. He's an accomplished and very talented musician plus a Dr. of Ethno-Musicology! (hope I spelled that right!) I'm going to buy the book. I suggest you do too!
Can't wait to read it!

Dr. Tom Gruning's Website

Dr. Tom's current CD "Old Friends" is available on his website. I have a copy and just listened to it and it's fabulous! Firsty said he's listened to it over and over since he's been back home from the show and loves it, too!

You can find purchasing info on the bottom of this page...

it really is very good. at first, i thought, eh, just a tom waits ripoff artist. but then i listened to the whole thing, and fuck if i cant bring myself to stop listening to it over and over again. the only thing thats shared my attention, curiously enough, as you have heard, d, is the new folk music album by springsteen. i read a review about it a few weeks ago and didnt buy it because the reviewer criticized springsteen's use of a large band to play these american folk songs. while, in fact, now upon hearing it, the reviewer was way off base - i'd like to see what dr tom thinks about brass and accordian in folk music, it cant all be simply harmonizing unusual guitar chords. i may have to beat down my local librarian to try to get a copy of tom's book.
