on the way to Hanalei kauai around 1980 there were buffalo- the mawry s had a herd-
i had romantic notions about buffalo- and about what they were to me- but after falling in love with ben and jerry and mama sita- who had sundance-jess and mike- and primo- well- i had a herd and knew buffalo in a new way- i wanted to touch them- cuddle with them- they dont cuddle- but they have an energy that is amazing- and they were my soulful eyed frenz- once i was singing to them and burst out laughing- because 'i had a captive audience'
there will be a buffalo ceremony here this weekend- miguelito- he had an 'experience' with ben- one of my buffalos-
and well- i am really curious about people experiences and all- so i will be attending- the fact that it is in the backyard makes it real nice-
i used to see mr and mrs mawry around town in hanalei- they were 'old school' - he always wore those zip up cover alls- and she always wore a dress with hawiaiin motif and a flower in her hair- they let the kids from the school see the buffalo farm-
when i went back to kauai- mr and mrs mawry were walking arm n arm at wilcox hospital- and he looked feeble- it seemed she was holding him here- and he was trying to stay
a kid asked me on my 50th birthday asked me to go drum with the buffalo- he was frenz with the mawry s and had to shoot an injured buffalo that had gone crazy a year earlier- there were baby buffalo skulls- he didnt know about buffalo medicne- and here he had a skull-
anyway i sang and drummed- and most of the buffalo were gone from that place-i guess when the old man got sick- 'things kind of fell apart...the spirit of the buffalo filled that place where i went to drum- as it did when meguilito did the buffalo ceremony---each time we meet buffalo spirit is one of the 'greatest give away' although i still feel slightly romantic about them- the healing- the buffalo bring is quite beautiful-

reason is over rated, as is logic and common sense-i much prefer the passions of a crazy old woman, cats and dogs and jungle foliage- tropic rain-and a defined sense of who brings the stars up at night and the sun up in the morning---
