the lovely, the voluptuous

one of the girls i still think of often is Kiki, a beautiful black girl hand-carved out of pure ebony, who went by the stagename... Mahogany, i think it was.
she was a girl with class and decorum, one of those girls who really didn't need to be there. she sewed all of her own costumes, and worked regularly in a fabric store. stripping just kept her in mustangs. she had a collection of vintage mustangs like nobody i ever met. 6, as i recall. the one she drove to work everyday was a white hardtop convertible, a 1966 if i've got my facts straight, the year the tail lights bent inwards.
one day i walked into the dressing room and she looked at me with a fear on her face. 'now, don't get upset' she said, 'i can fix it.' it turned out she had her eye on one of my costumes, and wore it for a show while i was out. it was a burgundy brocade deal with a corset and long mermaid tail. the tail had caught on her heel and torn, the reason she was now apologizing.
i wasn't mad, i knew she was a seamstress. she stiched it right there by hand and it looked good as new. in fact i think i might have sold it to her eventually, when i finally got out. i had gotten bigger as the years passed, and it wasn't fitting like it was cut to, back when i could afford every costume to be customized my own design.
i hope i sold it to her, i can't remember now. but she was a sweet, sweet girl, Kiki. i wonder how many mustangs she's got now...
