IN THE MOUNTAINS- THERE ARE HUGE SWARMS OF BEES- AND MASSIVE HONEY BEHIND LUMA HAI valley- the last valley before kalalau valley - on the north shore of kauai- the end of the road- and then the hike 12 miles back- it is here you will meet some of the real kauai- surfer chris or kalalu chris will kyak your groceries in and out by the sea- fishing, surfing- and a whole bunch of hippies-growing weed up past smoke rock- welfare and food stamps and 'living off the land' chris knows the rules and the waves and keeps people from killing themselves- the rules would be on how to behave in the valley-'dig a hole' etc
so now = after a few days in the valley and the girls with fancy kyaks and attitude- way back we all shared everything- now it is all best tous,most money- and attitude-the aloha thing- in the hotels - the hula shows in the shopping center of little kids- is just all wrong-
HUNA has been put in the church parish halls of which there are 17 churches in kappa town alone--- many hula schools- but back in 1985- when the kids were young the elders, kapuna santos , used to come into the schools and teach hawaiian songs on the drum and ukele- there were kings and queens based on each island representation- and many leis and photographs- the beauty was amazing- and still is on kauai-
but now while the little tourists were going snorkeling- or taking a surf lesson on the beach- having a cocktail with a flower in it- back in the hills--
there is a crew of pig hunters that grow weed for $ - they have guns and do speed and stay awake all night and wait for the plants to grow- the hippies and the locals dont really mix- it is about dirty- and really- hawaiians are very clean people- no shoes allowed in the house= sweet-
nice buds- but the rest of it is getting pretty ugly=a meth lab blew up two nights accross from the house - on the other side of the river- on powerhouse rod- it was uncle imo s house- he had been dead about ten years- he knew all the names of the mountains-- two nights before i left- i was still being yelled at to 'slow down' - it took me a while to figure out he yells at everyone- but likes shaming hoales-being a crazy indian- i dunno- i shake my head- that lock down judgement-

I'm a big fan of both the original & the newest "Hawaii Five-O". What is your take on that?
Do you care to see it much? One of my first memories was being on a ship in Honolulu harbor.
I envy the fact that you, Creative Soul, are living on Kauai. One of my brothers has visited Kauai & given us great reports of the island life...

Much more relaxing than living in big city Honolulu, on Oahu,
I would imagine...Even if there are meth busts down the street. We even had a meth bust
near where I live in metro Chattanooga, TN. Meth is such an ugly mind rotting
& tooth rotting drug. I wish people would get smart & not take it or deal it.

We live about a mile outside of town on a quiet street. However, about three years ago,
we had a break-in at a neighbors house where they stole some equipment & motorbikes.
We now have a neighborhood watch committee. Outside of that, other than a bit of graffiti
on signs & speeders, we have few crimes out here.

i am living in goble oregon right now- on 80 acres- i lived in kauai- from 2009-2012- and before that 1985-1999- and kauai has a beat that is to a different drum- beautiful yes- there are layers of experiences there- my children spent most of thier childhood there- so i am still 'interested' i what happens there- but i am 55 years old- and i cannot pay 2500 rent - and not have mental problems later- so i decided to come here and farm with my native frenz- will be taking a trip to kauai to see my youngest son - who normally lives in chile- for a week-he promised.
