The conversation went like this …
Setting:
Driving Eric [14, 8th grader] to school for his early morning class that starts at 7am. It’s 6:50am … no conversation in the car, no music … both of lost in thought. I pull up at a stop sign. There is a white pick-up truck in front of us with a HUGE bumper sticker ~ in rainbow lettering ~ GOD is LOVE!
And, the conversation went like this …
[me – deadpan voice] God is love.
(pause)
[eric – deadpan voice] I God you mom.
(we both start roaring out laughing….. It slowly dwindles down … the light changes … we start going … the truck is still in front of us)
[me] I God you too Eric.
(another set of laughing…dwindles down to a quiet pause)
[eric] I feel so God’ed.
(again another burst of roaring laughter. I’m laughing so hard, I’ve got tears in my eyes …)
[me] I’m trying to drive here!
(laughing becomes chuckles … then slowly back into our shared silence … I’m at the school, dropping him off)
[me] God ya Eric!
[eric] God ya back, mom!
(He turns his back, chuckling … I drive away chuckling)
……
I don’t teach him this stuff, it comes out of him, all on his own.
I sure do enjoy it, though.
Hope the fun of it all comes through ... because that's what I want to pass along anyway.
God Ya!
