The Information Age

Post by Lightning Rod » September 15th, 2004, 3:25 pm

this is the information age
a penny for your pixels
you can get a jerky slow motion blow job
on screen just submit your credit card
this is the information age
you can find out anything about anybody
d.o.b. SS# credit history outstanding warrants
this is the information age

let them eat zeroes and ones
this is the information age
every cent you spend on record
the paper trail to the superhighway
this is the information age
I can kill you with an idea

this is the information age, my lonelies
a moment etched on digits
scratched by light in hard drives
every vow you take, every purchase you make
signed with a crude stylus
in the information age

where your secrets are not safe
and dirty underwear is an open book
nothing is forgotten or excused
in the information age. Indelible ink
what you read and what you think
castrated by lies and overload
the positive caliber of repetiton
this is life in the infromation age.

like fishes in a sea of knowledge
swimming dizzy in schools of thought
our fates are wrought like criminals with numbers
in a world of liquid memory that never slumbers
the eye that never blinks, the ear recording everything
the joystick touch
this is the information age.
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

this is the information age
where you can travel to the stars
on the back of a hubble
gather moonbeams in a monitor moment

you can scoop the lastest scoop
before it is sayable
listen in on conversations
better that the corner cafe
(I can't hear so well anymore)

watch killer storms lay waste
be glad of your safe distance
the earth quakes, volcanos erupt
stars are born right here on the screen
in the information age

you can find most anything you
want in this restuarant
the infomation age...

much weaker than your's lrod. my poeting is rusty and makes me know that I need attention to my practice...

information is god...
just as enigmatic and diffuse,
demanding worship, all the same

information is a frothy wave...
breaking commotion and lather
a mesmerized view, a moment

information is zen manifest...
simply nothing more than everything
a mirror of life which gave it life

information has designs on power...
a rather tall ambition for such a late fad
of wires, ragtag electrons and silicon chips

information is the dark horse...
the one no one wants to race,
the one everyone is betting on...

Or you could say....

information is just fuel
consciousness is the vehicle....

if you were in a faux existential mood,
with a half-empty, half-full beer
in your grasp....

Wow...

Did I just do that?
Did I edit my 'spontaneous' writing above?

How lame is that?!!

This is the information age,
why you don't even have to turn a page
just press a button,
info glutton.

This is the information era
you can fill your mind up with terror ah!
just look at the screen,
see that nice bloody scene.

This is the information wasteland,
Your brain is the perfect wastecan,
toss it all in
til you're empty and thin.

This is the information society,
delivered in the utmost of propriety,
we dine on lies,
and freedom fries.

This is the information party,
elegant, hip and arty,
givin it all we've got,
pretending we're something we're not.....

information might be a two-bit whore,
owing nothing to anyone,
almost like karma.

(I think doreen had it right)

hest & mnaz

you guys are knockin' me out

what great pieces

mnaz, I love "zen manifest" It rolls beautifully off the tongue

hester, I hear your song.

I'm not trying to sound like a pedagogue here, but you two have
shown such imrovement in your writing in the past year or so.

I have been amazed individually by both of you on numerous occasions lately.

This is a little hard for me to express because I don't want to sound patronizing (something I hate) but my heart always swells when I see artists hitting their creative strides.

keep goin'

When I was informed about
the arrival of the Information Age,
I took the information with a grain of salt.
I assumed they got the facts wrong
but that wasn't their fault.
You see someone gave them information
which they passed along to me.
Facts have been altered this way
thoughout our history.

Words can get obscured
and meanings, blurred.
Information is always open to interpretation.
It's been that way since the moment of creation.

I'm of the opinion that this is not the Information Age at all.
Is what we're receiving facts? It's anybody's call.
Of course, information coud be an opinion or hype or a lie.
We need more information in order to verify.

So, even though information is all the rage,
I think, in many regards, this is the Misinformation age.

L-Rod and Doreen...

Just wanted to make sure I thanked both of you for the forum you've provided.....It made staying in the litkicks (creative) groove possible over the summer, whereas it might have been lost otherwise. The place kind of just "felt right".

And the change of cyber scenery probably did me some good....
(I hate to admit it, but it's probably a blessing in disguise that Levi pulled the plug on my Poetry and Politics board addiction, which took way too much of my time and energy)........ Anyway....
thanks again for the opportunity. It's really all any of us could ask for.
