Jimmy was rollin'
along the river yesterday
headed upriver - headed south
the road is cut into the bank there
bout 100 feet above the river
got to keep your eyes open along that stretch
lots of traffic - four wheelers headed home
big trucks headed for the Thruway
and interstate 81
but Jimmy also likes to watch the roadsides
cause lots of stuff from humanity's passage
ends up in the ditches there
and caught in the weeds
and trees
trash yeah but lots of bones too
from roadkill
little bones from sparrows
to big bones from deer
sometimes dog
sometimes cat
coyote too
Jimmy likes to look at the river
from that height
there are trees between the road & the river
where stuff that rolls off or
gets blown off the road ends up
so Jimmy's rollin with
his attention divided between scenery
and traffic
but he sees something at the foot of a tree
halfway down the bank
could have been a plastic bag
caught over a rock
could be a deer skull
or maybe something more interesting
Jimmy goin' back today
to take a closer look
rollin' rollin'
along the river
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

Let sleeping dogs
hot play the bingo - dream away
we look forward to a higher gear
