perpetual jam!!!!!!!!!

wireless connection
been failing for months
like an old car
that sometimes runs
and sometimes walks
and sometimes does nothing at all
almost like dial-up
only less reliable
three service calls
sure hope this last was the One
'cause I seem to be back
with all new wifi stuff
so yes, thank you,
I'll have a bit of jam
before the lights go out
again

We all sing to a different tune
But unto this I know
It’s all the same song
Since time immemorial
The breadth the width
The slant may be different
But the beauty the love
It’s all the same
As the path to the intersection
Comes in unlimited ways
Even if we feel lost
we are all connected

wondering wanderer
notebook in the back pocket
recording what is seen
or at least my perception
reviewing my life
as the mind romps
through the canyons
and up the hills of time
why
why spend time looking back
is this practice necessary
or just a silly whim of old men
perhaps the future seems uncertain
or not as interesting
or maybe my eyes are tired
or my feet ache
or maybe it's just time
time to make some sense
of this brief journey
of what the hell happened
but
once again
it's just my perception
maybe it's time to make peace
or clean up the story
create a version that comforts me
it seems harmless enough
polishing up the edges

thanks - been looking back myself lately, too
like when you climb a mountain
your eyes focus on the trail
watching your feet
stepping here
not stepping there
til you reach the overlook -
then you look up
sky
back
the miles you've hiked
maybe a river below
or a pond
or even an old road
that cost you a muffler
seen from up here
bits & pieces of a life
that start fitting into
a coherent whole

hiking to the top
my boots know the way
and each subtle landmark
is an old friend
limbs no different than the arms
of my loved ones
the curves of the trail
like the enticing lines
of a woman's hips
these paths I know so well
and I grow excited recalling
what lies in store, I'm here
to visit with old friends, lovers
and when I find my special boulder
at the top
it's no different than my recliner
at home, but with a far better view
of life.... than four walls will ever provide

that magic spot
nine miles and some
up the hoh river
delicate ferns and mosses
and towers of tree
silent and empty
yet full of energy
haven't been to visit
twenty years or more
but can still feel
the magic

Birch Hill WMA
10 minues down the road
quiet magic
no vistas
no towering oaks
no thunderous waterfalls -
just the confluence of two small rivers
a few remnants of days past
a glacial erratic or two
but best of all -
peace
serenity
stillness
silence broken only
by one's own footsteps
and thoughts
a homely place
to walk
to write
to be
to celebrate the simplicity
of the ordinary

steep climb
from the Little Gunpowder
winding switchbacks
my trusty stick helping propulsion
to a magic spot above the abandoned quarry
all the marble of use long gone
I sit on the ground, see a working farm
miles away as hawk soars above his lunch
a panaorama of trees growing sideways at times
from the old sheer walls left from mining
the new growth a smorgasbord of windblown seeds
few come here, and that's fine with me
I take out my notebook, sketch a little
write a poem, the warm wind toying with the pages

gap mountain
small peak, but "strenuous"
in the guide books...
park by the swamp
cross the stream
through woods to the field -
then UP
past an old ski tow's corpse
to an orchard and beyond
up
to the boulder where
I allow myself a rest
up some more
to the scramble -
four-wheel drive
only now
does the slope relent
and reward the hiker
with high-bush blueberries
and oh, that view -
Mount Monadnock
and lots of sky

perpetual jamming
is a gift set out in a digital playground
a welcoming place to express any and all thoughts......
oh Wireman of the Stars
how could you have known you created an eternal message board
but, your simple contribution endures, despite
the loss of poets for whatever reason
the task falling to the few who refuse to give up
and this is your legacy
beyond your retirement
beyond the pushing and pulling of life's interference
beyond the Stars
and Eclipses
beyond stagnation and fatigue
we the undersigned agree
to never stop as long as we have enough breath
on this day in April
in the year 2024

but the ethos of the jam
we know that words can fail
but if propelled by the truth
failure can be noble
to jam is to try is to jam
and if the words ring
bravo
and if they don't

ensuring
a next time...
