apathetic
binge-watching
fat-headed
lazy assed
busy being idle
not-my-jobbers
illiterate by choice
blindly sheepish
dumb as a box of rocks
too tired to think
mindless
followers to the cliff
believing his ridiculous lies
you can fly, it'll be great

falling
buyers remorsefully
end over end
dive-bombing
to the bottom
where they see
oh so abruptly
the graves
they dug for themselves
without questions
without trying
to investigate on their own
the monumental splat......oh, it's just another
off-the-cuff sonnet-esque poem of doom
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

just hiding
in the outskirts
waiting
for the other shoe
the monumental splat
that is sure
to come
hoping
that my little corner
will be an island
when the storm rages
I'd rather learn from one bird how to sing than teach 10,000 stars how not to dance.

influencers
self-anointed pundits
of shiny objects -
what to wear
and what not
what music deserves your ears
and what doesn't -
grandiose declarations
elevating their opinions
to objective fact...
not so much to inform
as to amass followers
more
more
must have more
more likes
more subscribers
more empty heads
to be filled with cheap wine
paid for
by corporate interests ...
sorry, but there's no room in my reality
for that crap
so let the magpies squawk -
let them fight over meaningless scraps
I've got a life to live out

eight years ago
I turned off the news
i read an article that posited
I would feel better if I did
and for the most part it worked
but I'm a slave to social media
to some degree which means
I cannot totally live in a vacuum
I seem to know most evrything my friends know
with no CNN, or Fox, or NPR
the headlines permeate any connection I have
with my computer, they seep into my mind
regardless if I never turn on the television
My brother is a tv news junkie, he's says
he has to keep up on things to feel smart
but guess what, he can't sleep !
basically ever !.....they've filled his head
with scary shit, that is actually intended
to sell cars and refrigerators...
the more frightening the better, the more
he becomes addicted, the more sleep passes him by
I have tried and tried to get him to turn it off
but he believes what I am doing is putting my head
in the sand, yet...I sleep like a little baby
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

never been a news junkie, either
(not like my brother-in-law)
always managed to remain agnostic...
Dem vs Rep
left vs right
it all seemed... trivial...
boastful posturing that our affairs
mattered more than
the World in which they occurred...
buried myself in STEM
the poetry of Cosmos
writ in mathematics...
spent a lifetime turning over rocks
searching out small truths...
now ignorance is king
pushbutton answers with no value
why struggle to learn
when AI already has?
only fools would do that...
fools like me...
