perpetual jam!!!!!!!!!
Re: perpetual jam!!!!!!!!!
they say god made us
in his image...
I say
doesn't say much about god, does it?
every sunday
mom & dad would drag
me, karen, & brian to church
Catholic Mass
ancient traditions
whose meaning even time
had forgotten...
then I heard the music:
differential equations
planetary motion
wave functions
manifestations of an alien god
neither malevolent nor benign
caring nor spiteful...
just...
a grand clockmaker....
these mathematical runes
alerted me to its presence
but now I see it eveywhere...
in the winter moon
peeking up over the eastern horizon...
in the spider resting in its web
backlit against the morning sun...
in the comings and goings of habitats
over time...
and how such complexity can arise
from the simplest of rules
no golden palace
or grand ballroom
or towering effigies
erected by self-important little primates
can rival the wonders of the mundane
or match its luminous simplicity...
it transcends all language but that
of vectors, tensors, and Lie algebras...
and they can't make me weep
with joy
in his image...

lie under a tree
sunlight filters in
rustles high above
cones dropped by a busy squirrel
finding the meals to sustain
miracles great and small
the important things
tiny movements
the bugs at work and play
simple things
redwing songs and anthills
time on a small pause
hold on to it

or walk alongside a river
eyes ears & nose taking it in
all channels open
see
the little green things lining the trail
nameless, but familiar,
like the strangers you see every day on the bus
dragonflies patrolling the shallows
hovering among the reeds
listen
to the water tumbling over rocks
to the birds warning their neighbors
that you are nearby
smell
the mud
the Canada mayflowers
the midsummer Christmas of balsam fir...
take it all in...
it's free
and worth so much more

exqusite entry above roy
changing directions,
the reason I like books
is there is no noise in them,
the tone isn't apparent and no one
will need to turn up the volume
more people have seen the Mona Lisa
than ever listened to the Rolling Stones,
and only 3 people can see it at one time
The Duke Ellington Band was the vision
of one man, rhythm and blues, rockabilly
one man crying in the wilderness
it's a lost form of art not to conform
where are the Patsy Clines, the Plato's
the Socrates' the Whitman's the Emersons
Tik Tok, Spotify, You Tube
all about spectacle
matter of fact the loss of literacy
has been the triumph of spectacle
I know
I'm full of shit
just typing away
with nothin' to say
but at least I'm trying

Re: perpetual jam!!!!!!!!!
man, you got it wrong -
it's not full of shit
to rock the jam -
you gotta put your brain in neutral
and let your fingers sing -
they know
they know what it's about...
you mentioned the Duke
he didn't hafta tell Johnny Hodges
or Paul Gonsalves what to play -
they just did it
if the score said key of G
and an F-sharp minor worked
play it
so type away
with nothin' to say
bsayin' it all the same...
no shit, not shit
just sweet & gooey

Re: perpetual jam!!!!!!!!!
there may be a man somewhere
that is closer to the truth
he may be sitting cross-legged
on the side of a Nepalese mountain
staring at the sun, or he may be running
barefoot through the Amazonian rainforest
in an animal skin loin cloth,
or he may be typing shit in the perpetual jam
he may claim to converse with blackbirds
or he may lie with holy men behind stone walls
can verity come to us if we chant the right words
perhaps that is the real power of the jam,
is truth spiritual or corporeal, or a bit of both
does this man drink gunpowder tea or fermented agave juice
or does he chew on the button-like tops of spineless cacti
maybe he just posts in the perpetual jam initiated
by the one and only wireman of the stars, is he
a fellow at a university, does he claim to possess
the divine right of kings or reference the Divine Comedy
can we reign in our predjudice, how about our superstitions
the truth cant be in the oval office with men without clothes
there may be a man somewhere
that is closer to the truth.....
maybe we are all just journeymen looking
for something that will never be known to us
perhaps the best roadmap for your hip pocket
is the doctrines of the Greek Skeptics
maybe there is a man somewhere
that is closer to the truth, but
maybe it lies somewhere in the perpetual jam
maybe we should eshew doom-scrolling
and instead scroll back thru every page in this jam
or we could simply keep it up, keep writing what pops into our head
and be satisified with our contribution
there may be a man somewhere that is closer to the truth
but it ain't me, I'm just a seeker and occasional writer
if any aliens read this, please send me an email or a text
don't phone me, I'm hard of hearing

Re: perpetual jam!!!!!!!!!
engine light came on yesterday
car started sputtering, so I limped home
without completing my chores
and today I will borrow my daughter's car
to go see my doctor
and on the way home I'll stop by Murph's Garage
and see when he has an opening
to check her out
hoping it's nothing serious...or fatal
or expensive
life at times often feels like
being in the backyard and lighting
hundred dollar bills of fire, i just spent $775
on my daughter's car
good thing though, now that is the silver lining here
I feel her car will make it to the doctor's office
and back
just fine

Re: perpetual jam!!!!!!!!!
cars have a way of doing this
they know
they know when you're in a hurry
they when your credit card is too hot to handle
or those rare moments
when you're flush with cash -
they know when to wink at the gods
and whisper "hey... watch this...."
and they hold your bank account hostage
by failing to start
or dying in traffic
(mine drops its undercarriage mud shields
like a snake shedding its skin)
cars are evil
mischievous Loki's
who know they're indispensable
and not afraid to show it

Re: perpetual jam!!!!!!!!!
back on the road
thankful it wasn't terminal
Murph is one of the good guys
honest and skillful
never does anything that doesn't
need to be done
and always gives you options
and explanations that make sense
this time around only spark plugs,
a fuel filter, and a coil, and $500
not too bad given the anxiety
swiriling around in my head
not knowing if I'd ever see her again

talk radio
has made certain words scary in maga country
woke
sends shivers up a red spine
socialism
makes trumpians curse in a loud voice
when asked my comedians that surreptiously enter
their gatherings to define what socialism is
they don't have a clue
they stumble
they hesitate
then finally spit it out, it's just bad
that's all I know. it's a bad thing
I heard it on the radio
woke and socialism are ruining our country !!
one way to clear things up might be to say to them
Ok...here it is
Socialism is when the fire department risks their lives trying to save your house that is on fire
Capitalism is the Insurance company denying your claim

Brilliant - and SO true
let's not forget "liberal" - formerly, adj. = open to any possibility; now, n. - a contemptible weakling unwilling to hate the same things we do
public education is another evil of socialism, and it's clear why the Right hates that

Re: perpetual jam!!!!!!!!!
last night I had a wild dream
Shakespeare was alive and speaking
about donald trump to an audience
gathered to express their dissatisfaction
with the orange one with the pancake make-up,
it was like on open mike rally and a chance to say something
Shakespaere came to the podium
and announces his comments are directed to the prez,
" Utter not thy verbiage
oh vapid versifier, torture not
the language I love, let thy lay lie....
cretin crambo, find thy tongue
ere ye post thy babble,
I beg thee oh boring bedlamite
cease forever thy mangled expressions.
assault thy ears no more my good man
for thee have not a damn thing to say "
applause

Re: perpetual jam!!!!!!!!!
trumpsters have been with us
for a long long time...
even the Bard spoke of them -
as in Timon of Athens -
"He that loves to be flattered is worthy o' th' flatterer"...
or in Antony & Cleopatra -
"I will praise any man that will praise me"...
or in As You Like It -
"The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool"...
or in Henry VI -
"Suspicion always haunts the guilty mind"...
...looks like the MAGAs have e'er been
the boils on mankind's bum

Re: perpetual jam!!!!!!!!!
listening to an old song this morning,
"baby's back dressed in black
silver buttons all down her back"
lyrics can paint a picture without a brush
" walkin' the dog. I'm justa walkin' the dog
if you don't know how to do it. I'll show you
how to walk the dog"
got me to thinkin'
what are they saying ?
I mean I think I already know how to walk the dog,
but now I have to admit I have some doubts
and I just can't help but fixate on that black dress
with the silver buttons all down the back
could "baby" be a cross-dressing Poodle ?
and was "baby" lost, because now she's back
oh well, doesn't reaaly matter does it
