tea with friends

my croatian friend is an artist,
creative and eccentric.

he says to me,
"dear,
stop looking for inspiration from without,
it must come from within."

and we sip our tea.

isabel was my grandmother's friend.
every april my grandmother sent me
money in an envelope
(3000 miles)
to go and purchase a yellow rose
for her friend's birthday.
i took isabel the rose,
sat in her kitchen
that was always filled with sunshine
and listened to her stories.

i was a child,
she was an old lady
and we sipped our tea.

haven't been sleeping,
either of us.
too many worries,
too many fears
all shared.

it's very late,
we sit leaning on each other
sipping our tea.
