It is a long way from Alexandria to Frederick
A long time ago when I was working high rise in Crystal City,
My first day on the job I was so scared I could not “walk the beams”
Down on all fours crawling from beam to beam
I was a damn good laugh for the steel workers

It’s long time since Broadway Joe wore panty hose on Super Sunday
Teddy took a swim and Neil took a small step and a quantum leap
And I was slinging burgers at the Little Tavern in Bethesda
But it seems like time is condensing for me
Because only yesterday I was a child taking his first step

Calm before the storm
In a couple of hours a tropical storm will be moving in.
And I will be gone with the wind
Still trying to get to New Berlin
And I think about a song by jitterbug
As I “talk about what used to be and waste another day”

Carpe diem

I stumbled on an old photograph of you yesterday and had to smile

rodbusters

Carpe diem is a phrase from a Latin poem by Horace. It is popularly translated as "seize the day", although a more literal translation of carpe would be "harvest" ("harvest the day"), as in the harvesting of fruit.

Macho Man From Taco Land Gary P Nunn
I wish I could find that mp3

First time I come to texas I stopped at road house in Ft Stockton
The waitress complaining about her ex husband
She she said she won't never marry a Mexican again
Next time she said is going to find herself a white man
I was shocked
I did not realize Mexicans were not considered white people
I thought about them as Italians, seemed like they were all Catholic and macho macho men.

Playing hooky from elementary school
walking the water front
going downn the block on baltimore street
recklessly eyeballing the posters at the Gayiety Burlesque Theatre

thinking about a cowboy song he is singing to the colt as a storm is coming on. I think the silver chain is the lightning

"the devil beats his wife with a silver chain
come on willie
your ma and me don't travel well in rain
singing about a picture of a cowboy on a brood mare and a colt a following
just some old picture his grandma gave him
now that the old girl has gone before him
he thinks about that picture when he needs religion"

mangled Robert Earl Keen lyrics from memory

I can always hear the lyrics
but the music never lingers.
Just grateful I can hear the music when I can hear it.

speaking of lightning anybody heard from Clay?
