Frost at the train station night time
Cowboy boots' heels clunk on the iron steps
crush through the air with billowing breath
the train won't arrive for ten minutes yet
the neon announcement sign sighs a buzz around the platform
i lean on the red rail and watch a drunk guy smoke
one side of his tweed blazer is tucked inside his jeans
the jeans' pocket on that side is pulled out
i wonder what he lost when that happened...
the air is so clear tonight; unobtrusive
the platform's pastel colours dance to keep warm
a sign reads "passengers must not cross this line"
i like to put one foot over the line as i promenade the platform
my futile little act of civil disobedience in the dark
the lights shining down on the platform flicker
their amber glow is held in tight circles, dotted up the monoblock
an old beer can is rusted on the tracks
i wonder how long that's been there...
somewhere in the night a dog is barking
boy racer car engine roar
someone lets off a firework
it's screech bang sounds impotent
puny little rocket
when the same thing happens to me, i blame the cold
i hear the train heavy panting
see heat lines as it rounds the bend
i make out the driver in his hi-vis vest
i wonder what time he's on till...
