-the rural bout gone from here these days
it's grown up with houses close
called "country" now
new people move in get to complainin' 'bout
the neighbor's dogs barking up the road
hell, man, she was here long time
before you moved in
and now you callin' the cops bout her dogs
get your cloud of darkness
back on your own side of the road -
don't know what kind of music you listening to
but you should change it
took my hound for a walk the other day
he had to do his business
goes into a squat
man comes out on the porch
of his trailer home says Hey! what's that dog doin there?
it's up to all of us
to help our fellow man out when we can so I says
He's taking a shit can't you see?
dna is a funny thing
it can give you a genius or a fool
the whole nine yards of it a crap shoot
the guy says that's my lawn
i say no it ain't - it's the county right-of-way
they own 20 feet either side the centerline
he didn't want to hear that
so here he comes off his porch and he says
what did you say?
i said i don't know what kind of music
you listening to, neighbor, but you should change it
and don't drink the coffee
in the bottom of the cup
it'll make ya hinky
and maybe even crazy you keep at it
long enough
i turned my back to him
and my face to the moon
and i told her the rural long gone from here, sister
better go shine somewhere else
and take me with ya
& we'll listen to some R L Burnside
til the sun rise
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

Hard wakin' mornings
Shake-a-bacon warnings
Storms movin' thru
Steady in waved intervals
Not timed, yet definitely tuned
Steady Rollin' infinity
Words headed out of my yackity-yack
No talk back
Callin' everybody "Daddy-0h!!!"
Lookin' for that function at the junction
On my jammin' way to the other side

Notes for Dino:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Got 2 b on top of your game
Fellini caravansary
Doubtless wanderers
Most likely a slow train
Moving through Peloponnesus nights
All seen from the vista called Highland-town
Over looking Baltimore w/a whimsical stare
Knowing what you are
Just about the most important thing in
this here life
The gift, a declaration
"I am! I am!"
Mr. Poet roared
all these trucks going by -
they are building a poem down back in the woods
it must be a big poem because these are big trucks
carrying a lot of shit
& there are a lot of them going into
& out of the woods
