been off the grid seven days

choice between food & bills

as we get older
i was scrapin the barrel for
2 long up until i got
back to work in july
so i know what ur goin thru
priorities are belly for sure
i wanted to retire soon
but aint no way
just figure i work till
i die, all the rest was
impractical dreamin'
doin a show tomorrow night

think I'm gonna like it

commute some miles i'm gonna be lookin'

did some googling on the town and
the area -
interesting tidbit i didn't know
article said that ginsberg bought
a farm near town & it's still there
and still owned by the family or the trust
something like that
said he was a resident for about ten years or so
from the mid 60's to the mid 70's
and the whole gang used to show up there
kerouac, corso, the whole crew i guess
i didn't know this - you ever hear of it?
there is a joint in town called the Coyote Cafe -
can ya see me serving coffee there?
or sweeping up after hours?
hell yeah, Mongolia!
land looks beautiful - heavy hill & valley country -
can't say for sure until i'm on
the ground there but it looks to be
some drop dead gorgeous biking ahead
it just looks quiet - slower paced
i think i'm ready for some of that
always wanted to get back in the hills
& it looks like that's where i'm headed
and there ain't anything to hold me here
where i'm at anymore

how did the performance go?
hope ya had a hell of a time

took a trip into the hills yesterday
Coyote cafe was closed
that village where Nancy will be working
is like an outpost back in those hills
jeremiah johnson I ain't
but wow
went down to cooperstown
and they was having some
field day celebration
whole town wrapped up in it
then on down the road to oneonta
main street was like entering a canyon
19th century buildings in either side
two colleges there
and the place was humming & hopping
even in the rain -
don't know what to say about it all
except it's gonna be different
folded & eroded country

big hills & old mountains
with the bedrock bones of the land
showing thru
wisps of low rain cloud hanging down
old woman pushing her walker ahead of her
coming right down the center of the street
my brain like a covered wagon

but mostly different from what
i'm used to up here on Lake Ontario
got half a crap-ton of poems out of it
and they are still forming
place jolted me some
and worry wants to do a stompdance
on my brain -
yeah woodstock down the road
but up in cherry valley
there's an old woman pushing
her walker ahead of her in the rain
wearing an old woman's hat
right down the middle of the street
and the Coyote Cafe ain't big
a few tables out front
windows dark
and no sign on the door
posting their hours
that made me look on the place
with some grace
- i think the place
is on Indian time

yeah that's the place
nobody there yesterday though
grey day -
i didn't see the Stagecoach Cafe while in Cooperstown
people all over the place down there
in celebration
but thx for the tip -
next time there i'll check it out sure
we may end up living there
didn't look like too much for rent up in the valley
